Roy's annual secret scrimmage with Vandy this Saturday at home, rumor has it.
Anybody hear anything about time?

It should be come good competition however they decide to run the thing this year. Vandy is going to have a good team.

Very good team... legit Top-10 projection --- honestly, I think they have more substance than UK to be ranked highly.

Hope Vandy wins the SEC. And they can.
Yeah Mikey, they are solid. Now, of course I've still gotta pull for my Auburn Tigers (after the Heels in basketball, of course), but they aren't quite ready to contend. That being said, Pearl is building something pretty fast and they could finish in the upper part of the SEC this year. If Bruce can keep his nose clean (he's on a pretty tight leash) they could soon have something really good going on in the Plains.

Anyway, I watched UK's Blue-White. Talent for sure but nothing like last season... and their most talented player is a frosh whose body needs to mature. In all objectivity, I think UK is pretty over-ranked preseason. Vandy is the best returning team over there.

I watched them play last year at the Barclay's and they were young, but super talented. Baldwin is explosive, Korent is a 7 footer that can shoot the lights out, and Damian Jones is a legit NBA prospect. Really like this team this year.

Good matchup for an early scrimmage with two deep, talented teams.

Won by 12. Justin leading scorer. Berry played point most of the way. Heard we looked very good.

Looks like you were spot on, dadika. Team got off to a strong start, played pretty well.
...and still waiting for a text to make sure this part is accurate, but I believe Roy started the right lineup
(please be true).
JB/MP/JJ/BJ/KM

Also read that Roy started Berry, Paige, JJ, BJ and KM. So glad to hear this as that is definitely our best lineup IMO. Paige needs to be a scorer and let berry run the show.

Bleh, a very old joke that isn't even funny in this circumstance. I'm not breaking any news, coaches/players/reporters are allowed to talk about these scrimmages once they end. Just giving some info to posters who may not have heard any details about our first reps against another program.

Gary, yup, that was the lineup he started and Paige played almost exclusively with Berry. Not sure how many walk-on's played but Vandy hung with us when we played well. That team is very legit.

Thanks for the info for us starving masses! This is good news and I am thrilled that Roy started our "best" lineup. I do think we will see plenty of different lineups during Roy's patented tinkering period, but come ACC time, I expect that to be our most used starting lineup. Boy would I love Vandy to beat the brakes off Kentuck, but I'm much happier seeing us start off fast. Any more info you guys could share would be appreciated!

Bingo on all counts. There's only one danged exhibition so we're chomping at the bit for a preview.
The result leaked out pretty fast, and that's great news... but even more important for our season prospects was the lineup Roy put on the floor. Thanks for ending the suspense!

I agree. I stand by my statement that Vandy is the class of the SEC over UK's raw talent. Legit top-10.

You make a great point, btw. Early tinkering is Roy's M.O... and normally is fine, but this is NOT the season to engage in that. To put it bluntly, this year's lineup is both a monstrous no-brainer, yet an absolutely vital decision, and we hit the fire early in the schedule. This team needs to establish its identity, rotation, and thus, chemistry from the get-go. And speaking of chemistry, the best inside team info that I'm fortunate enough to get usually takes a bit to get to me (for various reasons), but trust me when I tell you this (from what I was told this summer): establishing that lineup/rotation will go a long way to making chemistry a positive thing on this team.

A Vandy guy on their free board said UNC was up 20-3 and ended up winning by 12 or so. Apparently Hicks looked really good. If he comes in and plays well the Heels will be very tough to beat.

I've always been very critical of Hicks but from what I've heard so far from him (granted, very early) is very encouraging. If he turns into a starter level player, we are going to be very very tough to beat on a nightly basis.

IMO, Hicks is an x-factor. If the Heels can get solid contributions from him off the bench while Brice is resting, it will go a long way to propelling the Heels into late March and early April.

i'll take UK over Vandy. I'm sure it's just me being bias though. ;)

HUGE factor. By my reckoning, Hicks and Pinson should be 6th and 7th in minutes played.

The more of the pre-season coverage I read, the more it seems like the Junior Bigs are out to make a huge splash this year.
Kennedy and Isaiah are vital to the success of the team and I hope the hard work pays off for them.
Could be a two-edged sword though, both guys might also have an eye on winning a Natty and declaring.
But I've said all along, as far as I'm concerned everyone can declare if the Heel's win.....

Roy will play a lot of peeps in the pre-ACC season. This is a fact and we might as well wrap our head around it now. I'm probably in the minority but I like that he plays a deep bench. We criticize ratty for not playing peeps, but don't praise Roy when he does. I think it is great for team chemistry IF the entire team knows it can play its way onto the court and IF peeps are willing to put their teammates before ego! I hear the argument about momentum during the game, but IF the players believe the guy that is coming in for them will help the team, then the chemistry isn't broken. Watching this team, I see guys that love each other and love playing together. They trust and support each other so I expect them to cheer when on the bench and chomp at the bit to get in and do their part. How many other teams actually discuss their 4th string PG AND expect him to play?! Hicks and Pinson will see starter minutes and probably will each get some situational starts this season.

This is an exciting problem to have!

Did you seriously just post that? dadika shared some nice info ITT.
Pretty douchey.

Gary, relax buddy. Take a mydol, change your tampon and grab a drink. It's not that serious. Dadika always has good insight and my comment wasn't a slight on him in any way. I've been here quite a while and I've seen these threads on scrimmages turn into baseless praise about us being the second coming of the 90's Bulls to early signs of the apocalypse and the world ending for Carolina basketball. A scrimmage is good for what it is, nothing more nothing less.

Not the way to approach it, buddy --- neither in your OP nor sure as hell not in this little passive-aggressive screed.
It was info about a game-like scrimmage with a very good team. NOBODY made anything more about it than it was. But it was nonetheless something of much legitimate interest for obvious reasons.
Douchey post was (and yet again, is) douchey... but yeah, you've been here for a while, so I'll refrain from telling you what you can do with your "tampon" remark....

A good problem indeed... and hopefully the best part of that is there shouldn't be much mystery as to roles and/or what works (as there sometimes were last season). Roy has the luxury of going as deep as the situation calls for, and you're right, this bunch should be more cohesive than last season.

With you on this. Too often we hear groaning about bench players getting burn in early season games. Sometimes they pay off and sometimes it's a whiff, but none of us will change the way Roy does it.

Not wanting to be a downer but I want to remind folks what these scrimmages actually are, they run a few sets, call time and they instruct, and then they try out a few more sets. Gary is my dude, he & I see a lot of things in s similar manner to the extent that at times I may try to go out of my way to find a way to some what disagree with him, if for no other reason than balance. But I don';t take these scrimmages as much more than a practice, other than we get a chance to go hard against guys they don't see in practice every day. I don't place a lot of stock in them, I reserve that for watching them in real game settings and that is just around the corner.

I don't know about yall but I can't wait to see my Heels in a real game, to have these eyes see and not have to base my opinions off other peoples eyes, that usually see things a little differently than I do. But really, it doesnt matter whose eyes see it, until my own eyes see it I with hold my belief. Make no mistake, I am expecting really good things but I got to see therm before I can talk about them.

We should be fun to watch this year no doubt. Quality experience across the board I believe will bode well for us down the stretch.
