That's a pretty ****ing pathetic and disgusting thing to poast, both about our president and about Martin Luther King. But I don't really expect anything less from you at this point.

Celebrate the man's legacy and stop trying to extrapolate it to modern politics.

Blow me, bitch . . !

edited to add the ! point.

Hey Zacharia . . next time you be the one to start a thread for Dr. King . . I waited all the way to almost 11 am and never saw a thread for today's National holiday. Get up a little earlier if you'd like and start one yo'self. Or I'll do it . .

You're the one who intentionally politicized a special day that's intended to remember an American hero, not me.

Yet you couldn't cry about coolwater's past of "thanks for the day off" . . ?

Is it just a day off for you too . . ?

I stand with the minorities, always will . . fukk you and all these 'Make White America First' folks you call your buds.

:)

Don't be such an offended pussy.

Lol you're embarrassing yourself.

Didn't say I was offended. Just pointed out it was pathetic and in poor taste. Doesn't mean it offended me. It takes a lot to offend me. Y'all wanna turn a day of remembrance and celebration into a political statement, know yourself out.

Idk... sounded a lot like some offended whinging to me. Certainly was a lot more whiny than anything said by any of us "liberal pussies" in the shithole thread.

If you get set off by a picture of MLK shushing trump... then I hate to break it to you... but it doesn't take much to offend you at all.

I'm not really pro-politicizing stuff either but just thought it was meant to be funny. I mean, it is just basically joking about his Tweeting. I don't think it was supposed to be anything more than that. I could be wrong though. I think basically everyone wants him to stop Tweeting.

Lol okay. In my mind, they're totally different situations. But hey, agree to disagree.

The boy whines just like a Georgia mule . .

Lol okay.

No one here needs yo' help . . push on, son.

Cory, it was obvious to all, but, one . .

I don’t understand the personal attacks? What’s that supposed to accomplish? Zach doesn’t need my backing but I’ve never picked up him being a racist before. Dammit Zach.

You're right. They are completely different situations. The POTUS acting and speaking like a moronic child is a much bigger deal than some random person drawing a sign of MLK shushing Trump.

It's a way bigger deal. The difference is really huge. It's like the biggest. One of the biggest deals. So bigly. It's so huge. Like the biggest. It's gonna be great.

They don't accomplish anything. I'm not gonna participate in a back-and-forth with him though. I have too many real world problems to tackle in my life to be worried about an anonymous dude on the Internet trying to insult me or whatever he was trying to accomplish.

Honestly, I see your point, and my original poast really had nothing to do with Trump. He's the POTUS and he's incendiary, so he opens himself up to a lot of criticism.

My main gripe with it was it continues the trend that annoys me where everything is politicized now: sports, movies, talk shows, variety shows, clubs, universities, Twitter, Google. Everything is politicized and I'm so tired of it. For me, MLK Day is a day to reflect a bit and honor a great American, and maybe gain some perspective. I felt/feel politicizing MLK on MLK Day is really in poor tastes.

But I certainly can see the merits of your opinion as well.

But, you did . . and you wanted to. It was foolish of you to post your stupid objections to my OP.

puss
I did not participate in a back-and-forth of insults with you, but alright. Me saying "But I don't really expect anything less from you at this point" is simply an accurate observation of your mood/tone/MO on political threads. You freak out and fly off the handle and personally attack anyone who disagrees.

TBH, you're acting like Gary7 right now.

Complaining about the politicization of things that don't need to be politicized is fine. I would prefer sports broadcasters stick to the actual game too...

But MLK Day is inheritantly political. There's no escaping that. He was the leader in a political war, fought for the civil rights of millions of people. It wasn't just the evil in people's hearts he was fighting... it was a corrupt state with corrupt leaders who wanted to deny him and his bothers and sisters equal rights. His story can never be divorced from politics.

Wouldn't it be nice :(

Right, of course, but let's not pretend that Martin Luther King "lost" and we're still fighting the same battle he had to fight. He won and helped bring in sweeping social reform. The types of systemic, law-backed racism you see in movies like "Remember the Titans" and other movies (denying blacks entrance to restaurants, water fountains, buses, etc.).... MLK defeated and conquered all that, and he did it through peaceful, respectful means. That type of systemic racism has been eradicated from this country. Does some prejudice still exist, especially with some LEOs who go rouge? Of course it does. That will always be the case.

I know people think it's clever and cute and a "gotcha, bitch!" moment to call Trump and Republicans "racist," but come on. Let's not act like Trump is up on the pulpit calling for a re-institution of segregation and Jim Crow laws. The term "racist" is thrown around willy nilly in modern times, and the people throwing that term around simply don't know what racism is. A state governor attempting to disregard a SCOTUS ruling in an effort to keep public schools segregated -- that is racism. That doesn't exist today, thanks largely to MLK and his peaceful movement.

No offense intended, THN, but perhaps you're being a little sanctimonious here. As uncboy10 points out above, Martin Luther King Jr. and this day which honors him are inherently political.

If King were alive today I doubt he would have it any other way. He would want these discussions to be taking place, likely as much on his day as any other, despite the emotions and controversies that might arise. Certainly his descendants, who have been featured across the screen for the past several days, seem to feel this way. And as Billy points out, at least he started this thread when it appeared no one else might. Thanks for ruining it.

Trump has embraced the racist label because it endears him to his base. Today is all the evidence anyone should need of that.

Let's also not act like you have to stand at the pulpit and call for segregation to be a racist. You can come up several stops short of that mark and still be a racist. Trying to cut assistance funding to black neighborhoods that desperately need that assistance so their children don't starve while not raising any complaints about the same benefits going to the trailer park? Yeah that's a little racist too... Ever notice how the welfare queen caricature is always a black woman?...

I was confused by the hostility toward Billy until I clicked the tweet link.

This photo depicts censorship and denying free speech, in my opinion. I never figured MLK as someone who would be censoring any kind of speech. And, even if he were, then I'd be in opposition to it. As much as I am usually disappointed by what Trump says, I sure as hell don't want anyone denying him his right to, or acting-out, voicing his opinion and thoughts.

If you were assassinated while supporting a union non-violent strike of criminally underpaid sanitation workers that was broken up by police with tear gas resulting in martial law, you'd probably be okay with your death being politicized. Just a guess . .
