Have you ever wanted a group of players to win a title as much as this one?

The adversity that this group has faced has probably been more than any team that this program has fielded. The investigation, the 3 years of not living up to expectations, the lack of superstar recruits, the passing of Coach Smith and Coach Gut, the PJ Hairston fiasco basically wasting a season, and the calls for Roy Williams to retire.

Guys like Hansbrough, Green and Felton will always be favorites of mine, but they really never went through half as much as Brice, Paige and the rest of this team has gone through.

With a win tomorrow night, Roy and the rest of this team erase everything thats happened the last 4 years and become immortal, and this program establishes itself again as the premier program in the country. No one will ever be able to say again that Roy cant build a team of 4 year players and win without a lineup of lottery picks. 4 final fours, 6 elite 8's and 3 titles in 12 years is a dynasty in this sport.

One more game boys, this title was 4 years in the making.

The '05 team went through quite a bit as well. The seniors were part of the 8-20 season, the juniors' first year saw the NIT and unceremonious end of the Matt Dohery era, and Roy still had Lil Stankum (the monkey) on his back of not being able to win the big one.

Yeah, I was really happy for the kids in the last couple but this team and specifically these seniors have been thru so much. They have been questioned about their tuffness constantly, they have been accused of under achieving in addition to all the other concerns they have had to withstand. You just really have to want these kids to go out on the highest of highs so that all they have had to go thru can be deemed worth it.

I wanted 05 really badly for Jackie & Jawad, the other guys as well but really wanted it for those 2 guys and I really really wanted Hansbourgh to get his. But yeah, I maybe want this one a little bit more for these kids that have stayed the course thru very difficult times, I want them to come out in the end in "One Shining Moment" that will be theirs forever.

I want this one very deeply for Roy, Marcus, Brice and all the rest of our Carolina Family. After all the garbage Roy and these young men have had to face from the investigations and the media, and all the flak they have taken from other quarters I so hope they are able to complete their dream and win the 2016 NCAA Championship.

That said, I felt the same about Dean's 1st in 1982, for him to "get the monkey off his back" was most excellent! And same thing for Roy in 2005, and for Tyler Hansbrough and crew in 2009.

I felt then and feel now that in all of these cases good people made the right choices and actions, and to see that come to fruition in the realization of their dreams and aspirations was wonderful!

Now I love me some '93 too, but I don't recall them facing quite the same circumstances as in these other cases.

Ya know, the more I think about this thread, don't get me wrong, I want it for these kids a ton but I think our UNC fan base really needs this as well.

This fan base has been thru a lot, in a sense even more than the players, we are always having that nonsense throw in our faces, the players play the games but they don't engage like we do defending the program at times daily against all sorts of on line attacks.

I feel like our fans have been beaten down so hard that i see a progressive nearly splitting of our fan base, those that take a more hopeful positive out look and those that have heard the nonsense so much that they wonder if there is more fire behind the smoke and just can not shake this negative feeling in the pit of their belly. A title tonight may not totally heal things but it would for sure give us a chance to come together, if not for more than a few days, a chance to unite together in positive way, maybe see a light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel.

The players, they win no matter what, of course they want to win the title but getting to the game is a moment of a life time but maybe the fans really need this thing more this time around.
