Just watched several videos of Brandon McCoy and I am impressed. I have seen few young bigs with his combination of physical gifts, motor, bball IQ, post moves, and natural shot blocking timing! He is an instant star that seems to have his head firmly screwed on straight. (he dose need to keep the ball higher and stop the needless dribbles in the post, but I see few weaknesses!) He just screams Roy recruit and luckily he isn't from Cali. He seems like he is still growing and is working hard to perfect his game. I believe he will be able to resist the used car salesman approach ratty and slimy use and give programs that can actually develop his game a try.

Roy is in on this one and I feel a good vibe from this kid!

Join the Family, Mr. McCoy!

Absolutely 1 million % AGREE! *I love McCoy, would LOVE LOVE LOVE for Roy to get this kid. I am not looking for that to happen but that kid may have the highest ceiling of anyone in this class. He is GREAT clay for the right coach to mold a great player from but he isn't instant grits, he is still really raw and needs really good coaching and truth is I don't think there is a coach in this country that would fit him like Roy would.

Having said that, I am not expecting him to commit east of the Mississippi but would add, if he does it would be to us IMHO. IMO, because this kid really needs solid coaching, the worst spots he could go would be Ky, Arizona, Cal, or Baylor. If this kid stays west of the sippi he should commit to Mark Few because Few would do a solid job with him but our style and the way we teach big men is a PERFECT FIT for this kid. My guess is he commits to Stanford or UCLA and truthfully he could do worse than UCLA.

I'm hoping that since he is not from Cali, he might leave Cali. I really think he would reach his full potential under Roy, but I guess I will temper my hopes.

Spot on Dave. This kid screams for the need of solid coaching and development. Honestly his 5* rating is based on potential more than anything (can't teach 7 ft.). Getting the opportunity to watch him live on the same court as Ayton and Carter showed that in spades. The best news is that he has a great frame and yes, is a great piece of "clay" to mold into a dominant player.

Don't know where he's from originally, but I don't feel good about our chances of signing anyone from California. Oregon is on the rise out there, as is UCLA. And Cal appears to have some kind of mojo going with regards to recruits. Then you throw in 'Zona and KU and I just can't feel too good about ever seeing this kid in baby blue. As Dave said, I doubt he matriculates east of the Mississsippi.

Any idea whether or not this guy sees himself as a OAD?

Doubtful (unless someone gets in his head). Yeah, he'd likely get drafted on potential alone, but he NEEDS good (i.e., more than one year) college development at a school that actually does that sort of thing --- like, say, I dunno... UNC?

We can all hope he realizes that and wants to get better in college and not just see it as a jumping off point.

Are we actually recruiting him or is this just another "wishing" thread? Seems like a huge long shot IMO. But things can change, I suppose.

I had read that he wanted a UNC offer, and I'd expect he'd get one in July. Is there any chance he comes East? Where's he originally from if not Cali?

I think he is from Chicago, and I know Roy is exploring our options with him. I love the way the kid carries himself more than his obvious potential. I'm a natural optimist so I reject the idea that Roy has no chance! I will hang onto the fact that he and his family like Roy and UNC, even though he is a long shot right now.

WE are recruiting him hard, his offer is just a matter of time, Roy wants to see him again but I would be in absolute shock if this kid expressed interest in us and he not get an offer. It is a good bit more than wishing on fans part with this kid and I think we will be in his top 5. Roy has to be careful in how many ship offers he puts out to bigs because some of these bigs want to feel like we love them more than anyone else at their positions.

Ya know what, while there are some other guys I would love for us to snag, I REALLY would love for Roy to be able to snag Tillman, Robinson, and PJ. Bamba/Carter/Knox are higher rated guys and maybe have the talent advantage but those 3 I really want may fit what we do better and would be around long enough to develop.

I was really hype about the Robinson interest, but it's starting to look like WKU may actually be leading his recruitment more than originally thought. On top of that, he recently said that LSU was working harder than we were on recruiting him. Which definitely wasn't good to hear.

Tilmon and Washington are the 2 that seem to be our best bets at the moment. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the 3rd Big was a guy we haven't offered yet. Like a solid 4 star guy. We'd most likely have Bradley still, and TIlmon and Washington would be the cake itself. So a guy who would become a solid contributor down the road would be huge for us.

Completely agree. Especially on PJ. Do you mean Xavier Tillman or Jeremiah Tilmon? How about we go ahead and nab both of them? I'd be pretty happily confused with our recruiting class.

You think its possible to get 2 out of these 4? McCoy, Tilmon, Tillman, Robinson.

I would be extremely satisfied with the following:

1. P.J. Washington (3/4)
2. Brandon McCoy (4/5)
3. Jeremiah Tilmon (4/5)
4. Andrew Platek (Shooter)
5. Nick Weatherspoon (Scorer/Guard by driving to the basket)
6. Jalek Felton (Commit, 1/2, Scorer/Guard/Point)

I feel like we have a good chance with this list.

Hey, sure, lets play 2 as the saying goes. I was referring to Jeremiah.

To answer your Q, absolutely think 2 of those 4 are possible, I would suggest 3 of those 4 are possible, I am actually kinda expecting 2 of that 4.

Rose, yeah maybe on the WKU deal with Robinson but we are talking WKU vs UNC for a kid, who would you bet on? His god father is not going to go negative on us, he has way to much respect for the school he came out of. What I am saying is we are in a really good place for this kid, LSU bothers me because of where the kid is from.

It is a strange recruiting cycle, kids like both Tillmans as Robinson in most recruiting seasons would be drawing huge attention from the big time programs but this is just a special year for big men, unlike the last couple were.

I would take that class in a NY minute! What ever a NY minute is, no clue how much longer it is than a Carolina minute...

If/when Roy extends the actual offer it will likely be around Peach Jam. The summer evaluation period is a critical time when staffs are getting good ideas about their prospects with various guys... and of course Peach Jam is a great stage for comparisons. Brice did himself well there a few years back...

You going to the peach jam gary? I am going to get a day there but not sure which one. LIkely go with my dukie buddy topps, likey try to catch either Tues or Wed, which ever I can find the time to be away from my office which isn't easy for me now days.

This year and maybe someone can help me, I want to get some team rosters that will hopefully have accurate player numbers on them. I hate watching a kid and not being sure who it is I am watching.

Was about to ask you the same. I'm trying to time a return from a trip to stop in but that's up in the air.
Yeah the numbers are sometimes sketchy but EYBL usually puts them out ahead of time. Even then that can change. Platek was listed as #4 but was #15 when I saw him.
