Heels, Nance Continuing To Mesh
Pete Nance has been in Chapel Hill for just several months, but he and the Tar Heels have already meshed a great deal.

Everyone talks about Manek's contributions last season and the discussions always seem to center around his ability to knock down treys. Now we look at Nance and we see that no, Nance is not the outside shooter Manek was, he doesn't have that quick trigger off the catch that splashes treys even with a hand in his face. So NO, Nance isn't the guy to do that...BUT...Nance will bring different elements than Manek, which does not reflect negative toward him in any way. But, Manek was limited in trying to replace Bacot when he needed a rest, or was in foul trouble. Really believe Nance will be able to hold his own subbing for Bacot, which there will be instances that he will have too. The options available with this team this year, probably outweigh where we were last year in that aspect. Having good shooters providing everyone remains healthy, should not be an issue. Manek point production should be absorbed with the players we currently have on the roster.
TP, if Washington and Trimble do what I think they will do this season and we can stay relatively healthy, I think we may have a mega team on our hands, maybe a generational level team. Talent and depth wise we may be right there with that Ky team a few years back that brought NBA first round picks off the bench (not suggesting anyone go out and get 40-0 tats or invest in a lot of 40-0 Tshirts). They are going to be a problem for opponents! I cannot wait to see peeps trying to score, get a rebound, or stop our front court!
What excites me is when our starting five is lethargic and acting goofy(happens every year) our second round could actually contend and maybe even catch us up. Every coach gets to the point where he’s love to pull the whole lot of em off, and we can, even without using scrubs!TP, if Washington and Trimble do what I think they will do this season and we can stay relatively healthy, I think we may have a mega team on our hands, maybe a generational level team. With all that talent the question becomes, can all that talent compliment the rest or oppose it, we have seen that work both ways. Look at what our 2nd string looks like: Trimble, Dunn, Puff, Styles, and Washington. How about 3rd string with McKoy, Nickel, Lebo, Beau, and Shaver?
How about on the same team we have 2 strong contenders pre-season for NCAA first team in Bacot and Love? How about on the same team a guy many consider to be the best position defender in the country, Leaky? How about on the same team we have the best jump shooting big man in the freshman class according to Roy and Hubert in Washington? Can we add the state of Virginia's all time high school scorer? How about for my money at least, the best PG in the ACC and one of the best in the nation in RJ? And we added maybe the best big man to come out of the portal in Nance?
All the individual pieces are there if they can come together as a single unit, well you know how that should end... With a LOT of smiling Tar Heel faces!
