Here are my thoughts after sleeping on the game

Well, I let myself cool down over night and here is my reaction:

-All is not lost. D played good, kicking game looked good, and outside of the RedZone, the offense looked good.

-We have to get into rhythm offensively. I've said it a million times, with this team that starts with the running game. We are too strong along the OL and in the backfield, not to.

-We can't get so fast on offense that we start hurting our defensive effort. The time discrepancy in the Time Of Possession was nearly 12 minutes. That's almost an entire quarter more, that our D was on the field.

-The coaches need to KISS it (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Just keep it simple, don't overthink it.

Yesterday was a wake up call for Fedora, and I am glad. His beloved offense, the unit we all thought would be the constant, is what lost us the game. I know that is embarrassing for him. I expect we'll see it be a lot more efficient going forward.

Have a good Friday and Memorial Day weekend, folks.

Good assessment of the strengths and weaknesses after last night.

Not the first time I've been left to scratch my head over red zone play calling. Not sure it will improve because of egos. I truly think everyone but our coaches saw what should have been done.

Personally, I don't see how an ego could be intact after the offensive flub yesterday. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, coupled with a schedule as easy as one could get.

The defense tackled well, and competed in the trenches. They played physically, and aside from the long run, and the dropped pick 6, they didn't really make any of those bonehead mistakes that were a trademark in 2014. The defense played well enough to win this game, no doubt about it.

I think A&T should be Mitch's game. It'll be a good chance for him to get in a rhythm and if he shows he can deliver the football where it needs to be then I think he should be the starter at least until he loses. Our RBs and WRs are way too good to go with a running QB who struggles to complete passes. It also should be noted that MT10 can move a bit as well. Doesn't have the power but he has some quickness, and can pick up a first down in a tight spot

I completely agree. This offense is far to good to be left in the hands of a guy that can't hit wide open receivers and gets flustered and pouts when the refs won't let him snap the ball when he wants. We cannot have that kind of self destruction.

Fedora is not a head coach at this level. You're going to be scratching your head more and more this season. Fedora is the same guy he has always been. I think Chizik was an impressive addition that will help the team immensely. But, Fedora is not a very good head coach at this level. It's blatantly obvious if you're watching the games.

I heard Lee Pace talking yesterday about what makes Spurrier a good coach, when asked about his time working with Spurrier when he was with the Redskins. He said the biggest key is that Spurrier keeps his nose out of and hires the right people in places that he knows he sucks at, and only concentrates on what he's good at. Fedora went out and got a helluva defensive staff that can manage a defense with no input from the HC. So I would like to see him take back a more prominent role in play calling, which he is obviously good at from his time at UofF, oSu, and when he called out Bowl game 2 years ago. He's trying to delegate too much on something that got him to where he is at.

Fedora cannot help what he's been faced with the last 4 years at this university, however he has still maintained a good culture, great continuity amongst the staff, good morale within the team, has still taken us to a bowl game every year, recruits well and gets a great response from the players. The fact that he hasn't lost this team, means something in his ability to lead, in my book.

"Lost the team?" That's a bit too vague for me. I'm not on the team.

I'm interested in seeing wins and a program that is progressing rather than spinning wheels and offering the SSDD. He might be good at play-calling for a school like Southern Miss. The offense produced last season, but it stunk-it-up last night. And, he abandons things that work for things that don't work, or aren't working even last season. He has always done that. I'm not sure how well he "leads" the team. I just know these mediocre-to-sub-par teams and 6-7 records are uninspiring on a good day. It's been made abundantly clear that he has the weapons and doesn't know how to use them.

I just believe he comes in with a game plan and can't adjust it accordingly to a game time situation, example Hood goes off gets hot, But Fedoras game plan sheet says its his turn on the bench, spurrier finds Number 7 on SC he gets hot Spurrier milks him until its dry that's game time management ..

I do to, and that's my point. Do you think Fedora made the call to keep Hood on the bench and pass it or do you believe that if Fedora were making the call, that it would have been 6? That was the point I was trying to make. I don't believe that was Fedora's call because I have seen Fedora call a game, and it was greatly executed. He needs to call the plays, and with this defensive staff, I believe the wins would come. I know as a HC you always want sound coordinators, however just as Spurrier did, if the delegation isn't working, it's time to takeover the duties that got you to the point you are at.

But Fedroa seems to be awful at knowing what he needs in a QB, or at least in seeing the limitations of MW.

MW has 1 and only 1 true skill and value: running between the tackles. MW has no speed to run outside, nor does he have the passing skills for the short air game or the intermediate air game or the deep air game. Nor he is a master of the option.

MW has 1 skill that becomes utterly superfluous once you give the ball to Hood. And that goes double when you factor in Ty'Son Williams as potential Hood Part 2.

So if Fedora were smart, he would realize that to maximize his great WR corps and his potentially great RB corps, he needs to sit MW.

if Fedroa does that and allows Chizik to do his thing, 2016 can be a HUGE season for the Tar Heels. If he stubbornly decides to allow MW to have this season, we will see all DCs learning from our last 3 games (SoCar and Rutgers and Moo to close 2014) how to make our high powered offense suck by recongnizing that MW is a failure in the passing game - and that goes double when the stakes are high.

To be fair Fed got knocked last year for taking Quise out, this year he tried to stick it out and his senior QB lets him down at the worst time(s). IF Quise isn't a complete bonehead in the red zone it would've worked out. It's not a horrible call to throw it because he should be able to tuck it and get 4 or 5 yards if nobody is open.

The running game looks nasty without Quise carrying the ball. The defense looks like it pretty much did a 180 IMO. Why not give Mitch a chance against A&T? It's the perfect opportunity to give him a shot at taking the job. If he doesn't step up it will be a wake up call to Quise. I know that we'll be better in 2016 but with a QB that can deliver the ball to our awesome WRs paired with #34 I think we can win the coastal this year.
