Open 'cruitin period is upon us, as the aforementioned helicopter adventures let us know.
One of the most interesting and vital runs in recent UNC history.
Speaking of "flying", Roy has scheduled his own trip to Finland this month. Go getcha that 6'11 kid, Roy.

Oh BTW: New Rivals 150 for '17 has Wendell Carter #1
...not sure what's up with Jalek dropping to #22. Pretty silly IYAM.

The recruiting picture is getting clearer after the barrages of offers we saw in the 2016. Really hope we get Markannen next. Just seems like a great fit for us tbh!

Not even remotely worried about Jalek's drop. Rankings are so fickle anyway. He'll probably be top 10 next go-around.

100% agree. I read a scouting report saying if Markkanen (sp?) was US based he'd be very highly ranked.

I like the idea of a 16-17 front court rotation featuring seniors Meeks & Hicks with 'freshman Bradley and Markkanen backed up by the soph Luke Maye.

Good selling point to the Fin is that he won't be relied on to play much centre. Bradley can anchor the middle with a long, agile 4 man wreaking havoc.

Very true, Oz.
And I love that Roy is going to Finland and not just waiting for the official visit.
Roy ain't playin' on this one, baby!

Roy and an assistant is heading to Finland for the September 28th in home UNC along with Arizona will send head coach and assistant utah just their head coach. UNC will be the last in home. Roy has noted he feels strong that Utah is the biggest competition to beat for Lauri.

I think Roy is right in feeling Utah is the biggest competition. It's a recruitment of connections. Kids father played for Roy. His current coach played for Utah.

I know we have a host of offers out to highly ranked guys (Giles, Smith, Bam, Bridges, etc), but I think Markkanen is the player I want most. I'm pretty sure he'd be at least a 3 year player and I'd like to see how Roy uses a Euro. I love his shooting from the 4 spot and I've just been really impressed with his game film and interviews. He's smart, talented and coachable.

I'm still saying we end up with this:

Bradley
Markkanen
Woods
Bam

That's a top 5 class. But as I stated in another thread a week or so ago, I'm becoming more hopeful for a Smith commitment. Still think we're behind, but I think the door is opening wider almost daily. If we get Smith along with the above group, it's a top 2 or 3 class.

Only issue I see with that is that I would be very surprised if DSJr and Bam go separate ways. In other words we prolly don't get Bam without DS.
Take Bam off that list and sub a Wing (like maybe Bridges), that's very realistic and a damned good class.

On another note, Woods is highly unlikely (unless the thinking in his camp changes drastically) to go where DSJr goes. So.... maybe, just maybe (and that's all it is at this moment), if helicopters and such don't do the trick... strike Woods and replace with a dynamic inside-outside duo from the state of NC?

Anyone know much about Steve Robinson as a recruiter? I believe he's going with Roy to Finland. Kind of wish Hubert Davis was going... Idunno... Just seems like Hubert is that young recruiter that could help with some kids. No knock on Robinson because I don't know much about him as a recruiter.

Roy coached the kid's dad at Kansas, very likely Steve was an assistent coach at the time and if he was he is the perfect guy to go with Roy.

After this season we will be losing Brice & Joel James for sure and a outside possibility of Meeks. That leaves only Hicks, Bradley, and Luke Maye an invited walk on to handle our front court. Say peaking purely about what we do have and not who we may have. Hicks is a bit undersized and as of yet to develope in to a go to scorer, Meeks is a bit elevation challenged as is Maye, to go along with the freshman. My point is IMO we need front court guys and in this class, IMO, we need 3, we got one so far, we seriously need at least 2 more.

I personally would love those 2 to be Bam or Giles (one of because we will not get both) and the fin. I am not so concerned with our getting a wing in this class as I am making sure we have a solid front court moving forward.

Coach Robinson has long been know as a "Coattails Coach!" He followed Tubby Smith at Tulsa for 2 years. Managed two 23 win seasons with Tubby's recruits and 2 NCAA appearances losing in 1st & 2nd round and road that success to FSU following Pat Kennedy, who was replaced after a 20 win season. Robinson managed only one winning season and his tenure quickly went south after he had the great Karim Shabazz failure. Supposed to be his first NBA star, the 7'2" monster left after his first year of averaging 5pt/gm and played for Providence for a couple years before disappearing. To my knowledge, Coach Robinson has never recruited a league player.

I agree - 3 bigs in the '16 class is optimal. I'm not so worried about a wing either in '16 but one will be crucial in '17 as Pinson will be the only true wing on the roster (most likely).

Oh don't get me wrong. I would love another Big, but I think a 3 man is a bigger immediate need. Justin Jackson could very well be gone.... plus I feel good about a certain 17 Big in GA (Roy visiting him today I believe).

Didn't Roy also visit Brandon Robinson this past week? Seems it went well, he's now looking to make an official.
He got visits in with Giles in VA and Robinson in GA as well as Carter today. Robinson had already scheduled an official I believe.

BTW: y'know what's funny? The Rivals writer who interviewed Wendell about being ranked #1 didn't so much as ask him about UNC, which just shows you how much folks gets wedded to their memes.
