That's what happens when you let a team hang around. UVA's just played in spurts... and that's not good enough.
Object lesson.
If you watched how uncomfortable UVA looked on fast breaks when Cuse started going full court... It was pretty pathetic.
Unbelievable comeback by Syracuse. I hope the Heels are watching. Even if they get a big lead on ND, the need to keep the foot on the gas for 40 minutes.
I hope we can move on now that the upset is out of the way. I mean, really, even though we played two tough games against Cuse, I think UVA is WAY tougher to play against and beat. Their pace wears teams out.
That's all Roy has to say: "don't look ahead, but UVA is what happens if you let up. Or UNI against Texas A&M".

Yep, but more telling is how UVA played. They'd get a lead and then coast.
More relevant even was that UVA's normally stout help-D just went away in the second half. Cuse took the ball to the rack over and over and got away with it. Congrats to Cuse but that one was on UVA.

That was UNREAL. UVA up 16 and then the Cuse outscores them like 28-9 or something like that. Thought for sure UVA had this one. You have to credit Cuse for never giving up

I'm stunned. The last team in the country I would have guessed to collapse like that would have been Virginia.
Terrible loss for its program. This was the year they had to make the final four this year. Michigan State gone early.... Highest seeded opponent was Iowa State. Sucks for them.

Wow the Final Four will be pretty unwatchable if we don't carry through. I mean - what other team in it has a large basketball fan draw THIS YEAR if Notre Dame wins tonight? Beyond Buddy Hield, no real story line players or programs. I might not even watch.
I tell my little brother who goes to UVA this all the time. Bennett Ball is a great way to rack up wins during the regular season, but the lack of explosiveness on offense leaves you incredibly vulnerable to comebacks and upsets
Honestly, I usually don't watch FF anyway if we aren't in it (and especially if dook is). But if we lose, I won't watch the remaining games.... it would be too painful.
Did anyone else think it was odd that UVA would roll the ball inbounds and Perrantes would wait a few seconds to pick it up and start the offense? And this is when they had a double-digit lead! Why would you give more time back to Syracuse?
I can't believe UVA didn't try to go inside more. This is not a comment on officiating, but it seemed odd for Cuse to be in the bonus in the second half way before UVA. Against the zone, it seemed like UVA just didn't have that one dominant guy inside (like Hicks or Brice) who could catch and score in the middle of the lane against the zone. I guess it should've been Gill. They seemed to pass it around the perimeter a lot and settle for contested 3s.... just exactly what Cuse wants. Brogdon just picked a bad night for a bad game. He should've been able to do better penetrating into the zone.
UVA never adjusted to the full court pressure, which is surprising for a team with their senior leaders. Syracuse deserves a lot of credit for continuing to play hard despite being down by double digits in the second half. While they may be a 10 seed, it won't be easy for the Heels assuming they take care of Notre Dame tonight. This win will give Syracuse a lot of confidence going into their next game.
Yes. We were talking about it watching. Also noticed early that UVA just wasn't intense and sharp from the get-go.
Also, when UVA threw over the press they should have pulled and run their offense and clock. Attacking presses like a transition opportunity is our style, not theirs. We're good at it because that's how we play. UVA let Cuse speed them up. That's NOT how they play.
Remember how much trouble we had with Cuse on senior night in DES. They just wouldn't go away. And we had to come from behind in Syracuse, IIRC. They are a tough out, no matter what.
I suppose... it gives them a few more seconds, but I don't recall ever seeing a team with a double-digit lead doing that.
They were running the clock during it. I checked to make sure 4 different times.
