CHAPEL HILL --- No. 6 North Carolina will play the Tar Heels' first games of the season at Boshamer Stadium this week as they host UNCW and St. John's. The Tar Heels will take UNCW on Tuesday and St. John's on Wednesday, with both games slated to start at 3 p.m. ET. Carolina went 2-1 in their series opener at USF this past weekend, making it the 11th straight series win for the Tar Heels.
NORTH CAROLINA-UNCW SERIES HISTORY
North Carolina kicked off 2018 with a pair of wins against USF in the weekend series in Tampa. After dropping Friday's season-opener, 4-3, the Tar Heels offense plated 12 runs on Saturday night to give starter Tyler Baum his first win of the year. Sunday's game went into extras, but Ike Freeman's solo home run in the top of the tenth provided the team with its first series victory of the season.

NORTH CAROLINA-UNCW SERIES HISTORY
- North Carolina and UNCW have played 72 times with the Tar Heels holding a 58-14 series record.
- The two teams first met in 1976 in Chapel Hill. Carolina swept the two-game set by scores of 3-0 and 6-5.
- This will be the eighth consecutive season that the Tar Heels and Seahawks have faced off.
- Carolina took the only meeting last year, winning 7-2 in Chapel Hill. Tyler Baum was the winning pitcher, tossing six one-hit innings.
- UNC and St. John's have played 17 times in a series that dates back to 1975.
- The Tar Heels have a 9-8 record in the overall series, winning six of 10 meetings under Mike Fox.
- The two teams met last season on March 1, a 5-4 St. John's win. The Red Storm scored three runs over the seventh and eighth innings against the Tar Heel bullpen to hand Carolina its first loss of the year.

- North Carolina's lineup wasted no time igniting the fireworks in 2018, hitting five home runs in the series against USF.
- The first home run of the season came courtesy of Michael Busch, a three-run shot in the seventh inning on Friday night.
- Sophomore Brandon Martorano hit his first career round-tripper on Saturday, following that up with another on Sunday.
• North Carolina is picked to win the ACC Coastal with Florida State picked to win the Atlantic and the league for the second consecutive year in a poll of the league's 14 coaches.
• The Seminoles received 10 first place votes, followed by Carolina with three and Wake Forest receiving one vote as ACC champion.
• In the Atlantic, Florida State led the way with 95 points, followed by Louisville (78), Clemson (70), NC State (53), Wake Forest (52), Boston College (23) and Notre Dame (19). FSU received 13 first place votes and Wake Forest received one.
• Twelve coaches selected the Tar Heels to win the Coastal, with Virginia receiving the other two first place votes. North Carolina collected 96 points, followed by Virginia (83), Duke (62), Miami (60), Georgia Tech (46), Virginia Tech (27) and Pitt (18).
• Carolina has been picked to win the Coastal seven times since the poll went to the divisional system in 2007. On five of the previous six occasions (2007, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2017), the Tar Heels did in fact win the division crown.
