Hot Takes

That's what's so strange. I love Archer but I think Bob's Burgers is unwatchable.
BB is ok to me... I get an occasional laugh from it. But I don’t go out of my way to watch it.

Archer is worth recording and rewatching. It’s easy to miss some of the humor first time through when your still laughing at the previous line.

Bob's Burgers sucks.

Fergie sux at national anthems

That was painful. Maybe the worst I’ve ever heard. In fact, the whole 30 minute skit thing with Kevin Hart was downright embarrassing. I was embarrassed for the NBA. Normally I would have never watched that shit but my 6 year old was into it and I was laying comatose from a birthday dinner. But honestly, the NBA should scrap that garbage and just play the game.

Yeah Fergie’s rendition is the most disrespectful thing I’ve witnessed regarding the anthem in quite some time. Yikes

It's interesting that the NBA is in a very healthy and growing state and yet everything they do is the same thing people are citing for not watching the NFL.

The NBA basically exclusively markets to a young, black audience. Not to say that's the only demographic that watches the NBA obviously, but that's the market the NBA targets. Furthermore, the NBA allows its stars to express themselves politically, such as the Cavs' "I can't breathe" shirts (or whatever they said) and Lebron's "I'm more than just an athlete" shoes.

And the ASG yesterday was a very socially active-tinged event. And yet the NBA ratings and game are as healthy as ever. So I'm not sure what to make of that, except maybe infer that the NBA has a very different demographic of viewers than the NFL?

I think the issue for the NFL has more to do with how they protest and not necessarily what they protest. People feel that kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful. The protesting for the NBA is more low key. The I can't breath shirts were done in warm-ups. Something that usually isn't seen on TV and something as simple as shoes don't get as much attention as the national anthem. If the players were protesting during the anthem, I think the reaction would be similar to the NFL.

Oh I totally agree about during the anthem vs. right before or after the anthem. No one would care, then.

But my point was more about how NFL completely stamps out individuality (can't wear unique colored shoes, as one of many examples), whereas the NBA completely allows players to make statements, be they political or otherwise.

I wonder if people are just favorably responding to that, since the NBA markets itself with individual stars. That's how that league gets its popularity. I wonder if fans are getting sick of how the NFL stamps out individuality?

But then you always hear how people don't want politics in their sports. So it's hard for me to explain the NBA's soaring popularity with that in mind. Maybe the NBA is just the sport of the Democratic party? It's the only major American sport (in addition to soccer) that doesn't hide that it's marketing to a mostly liberal audience? I don't know. I'm just spit-balling.

If you were unsure of that, that embarrassing Kevin Hart player introduction skit announced it loud and clear. I was taken aback by (1) how awful it was but also (2) that it looked like a BET award show intro. I get "knowing your audience", I just disagree that's their audience. Blacks are far more likely to support the NBA over the NFL, MLB NHL or any other league. But I'd bet that white folks still make up the good majority of ticket sales and merchandise purchases.

He has to wait behind the person who decided to have different amounts of hot dogs and buns per pack
Exactly. That’s my point. It used to be 8 buns in a pack and 8 dogs in a pack. Now, some companies (I’m looking at you, Nathan’s) decided to reduce it to 7 dogs; I assume for roughly the same price that I used to pay for 8. Idiotic! Just charge me more for 8... I don’t care. But unless I plan on eating 56 dogs with buns*, the bun-to-dog numbers don’t add up.

*Joey Chestnutt is probably ok with this.
