I see that the envelope will show you PM's that you are in already but how do you start one from scratch?

Hover your mouse over the envelope and then click on "Start a Conversation." You'll have to designate who you want to send the message to, but once you enter the first few characters of their screen name it will provide suggestions and you can pick from that list.

If I do that all I get is a drop-down that says "You have no recent conversations." Maybe you have to be a Gold Member to be able to use it.

I'm non-premium and don't see a way to start a private conversation. The envelope at the top right and the various other links to "Conversations" just tell me I have no conversations to display. Not something I'd be likely to use anyway.

Thanks for checking. That kind of sucks that only premium members can start a conversation, but I guess I understand the business rationale.

It's a pretty cool feature. I use it all the time to talk about other posters behind their backs. If you've never gotten a PM from me, that means I'm talking about you.

I can understand that you want to keep some things for the guys paying the bills, plus it helps keep the freeriders, such as myself, in our place...
