Win wed , beat uva Thursday .. might do it .. I've give up on this team ... DC anymore they don't either

Only lock would be the automatic bid.

If they get matched up with Virginia and then Miami and get those two on the nuetral to get to the final they have a shot too. Would have to be against the highest quad values possible to get there and then only if other bubble teams falter as well.

The UNC basketball brand means that the NCAA wants the team in, if it can justify it. I think reaching the ACC Championship Game will do it.

Ah, it would be Virginia and Clemson/NC State, not Miami to get to the final. I don't know if those two would be a big enough bump even if they win them.

Getting to the Final game and not having a terrible showing would get us in.
I think if we beat Virginia, but lose the next round, we will be holding our breath on selection Sunday.
But historically the committee has always been good to UNC…no other fans fill away/neutral arenas like Tar Heels.

@strummingram - I agree with you to some degree, but missing out completely on the tournament would make this team an annual mention as one of the most disappointing teams in the history of college basketball. I’d rather just forget and move on. It also would de-authenticate what they did last year in those phenomenal wins at Cameron and the final four.

It already is one of the most disappointing teams I can remember in UNC history. Figure they almost have to reach the finals to have a shot, maybe have to win the whole thing. But this team has not shown the slightest indication that they can put two halves together, much less three, four, games. Players with differing agendas, little control over this team by Hubert, it just doesn’t add up to any kind of instant turnaround to what all thought UNC would be this year.

Per Lunardi, we need to move up 6 spots to join the "Last 4 In" group and 10 spots to avoid the humiliation of going through a play-in game.

Odds are that a few teams ahead of us will stumble, but that's a lot of teams to bypass.

How many rounds does the NIT have?
The last time we were there it was 5. I don't know if that's still true.

Armando could still win a championship.

I'd almost rather go several rounds in the NIT than be knocked out in a play-in game in the NCAAT. Unfortunately, this team might get knocked out in the first round of the NIT.

I hesitate in saying this, but we should actually have confidence we can win this tourney.

We have only lost by 33 points our last 6 loses. That is just a little over 5 points difference in or loses, we are not exactly getting blown out. Our largest defeat during that time has only been 8 points.

If I had a little extra pocket change, I would put money on UNC to win this tournament.

We have to win this tournament, anything else would be showing favorites to a blue blood, I would take that by the way.

I always look and play futures, but UNC is only tied with Clemson for the 4th choice at 6 to 1, thought it would be more, the others 3 ahead are 2.5 - 4 to 1. Vegas is giving them a decent shot at it.

The bracket did seem to fall well for us, beat BC, Virginia, then Clemson or NC State? Teams we have beat.

If only basketball mattered, nothing short of an automatic bid would get us there. This team has shown more times than not this reg season they aren't a tournament team, so they need to show without a shred of doubt they not only want to be there, but DESERVE to be there.
No loss in the championship game and no amount of quality post-season wins should change that. We should not be rewarded again for terrible play for the majority of the season but winning just a few flashy games at the end.

But in reality: it's the NCAA; money and name recognition trumps all and we bring in a ton of that. At minimum, I think if we manage to beat Virginia and made the ACC championship game, the NCAA would try and put us in.

Believe they need to reach the championship game to be even be considered, then some of the teams above them need to lose in the first round of their tournament. But to be perfectly honest, even if they get into the NCAA tournament, it will be an early exit. Some mid-major would send them packing.

All of them. Penn State just won. Oklahoma State won last night. If we beat Virginia in the 2nd round, we get a Quad 1 win but lose one (UVA drops out for the earlier home game). There really isn't anything to bolster our resume at this point with other bubble teams winning.

Boston College could easily beat this UNC team right now.
No doubt they can, they have knocked off some tourney teams down the stretch. We also have beat Virginia, and either State or Clemson, which is the path if BC doesn't pull the upset. It's a doable route. Not the Covid year Brooks team that would of been a shock, and got hammered anyway before the shut down.

I am surprised that UNC is the 4th pick by Vegas, not far behind in odds to the top 3 by Vegas to win the ACC tournament. It is as good a half of the bracket as they could of hoped for.

By this time of the year, the Tar Heels should have developed depth and should have a consistent rotation to work with. Hubert Davis has failed mightily in this area and that’s the recipe for doom in the ACC Tournament.

A couple of weeks ago I was hoping to avoid Virginia early, but that now looks like the preferable side of the bracket.

Other than the head-scratcher loss to FSU, Miami looks like it's playing really well.

We developed depth last year?

Last regular season at Duke, no one on the bench played more than 5 minutes. Then we went to a 7 man rotation in the tournament where maybe Styles would play 3 minutes in normal circumstances.

I don't think the bench played any less or anymore last year.

And it remains to be seen, but I don't know how much developing a player like Styles can undergo. He's just an unskilled player. And it's really hard to develop dudes who can't dribble and chew gum at the same time.

The quality of a lot of the UNC recruits over the last 5 years doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as the 5 years prior. Dunn, Styles, Trimble, Nickel... they don't look like they'd ever get anything more than mop-up minutes. That's why I think that Hubert would take back all of the three starters he has available next year without hesitation. The bench is just not that impressive.

Get to the Champ game and look good = we have a puncher's chance! If we win, we will have momentum and confidence and will be playing with consistent effort so anything is possible!

I like the trajectory of our recruiting and have no doubt our coaching staff is learning rapidly! I am very optimistic about our future and feel we can make a splash this year!

I voted that we need to win the ACCT and folks, hate to be a bucket of cold water but that is the ONLY way we get in to this NCAAT, it will not happen if we lose in the title game. To get to the title game, the most likly match ups would be we having to beat BC, UVa, either Clemson or NC St, just to get to the title game. Yes, we beat all those teams regular season but beating any of them now do not raise us up in the net to get us in, think I saw, maybe Sisk said it on a pod cast but we have to come up 10 spots and simply no combination of our beating those teams raises us up. So we have to win the whole thing to get to the NCAAT.

I’m not going to argue with your logic but I will argue dollar signs. If UNC makes it to the title game…they’re in the Big Dance. UNC = Ratings which = Money. Not to mention the run they made last year is going to factor in heavily.
