no thats not a city in finland. No sugar and very little carbs for two weeks. Lost 15 lbs so far. No lie. The diet was developed to make your body burn fat instead of glucose. Felt like shit first couple days as body transitioned but feel incredible now. Would highly recommend it.

Awesome!! I have some friends that have had good success with keto. Friendly warning though: be prepared to maintain that lifestyle on a pretty permanent basis! My friends will lose weight on keto and then stop doing it and will blow up again like balloons.

Seriously though, congrats!

Do you have a meter to check your ketone levels? I’m sure you know this but you have to be careful with true Keto because you can get ketoacedosis

Yes i’ve resigned myself to the long term. Lucky for me i never was a big bread and pasta guy. Sweet tea though......

No havent gotten that far yet but know i will have to from what i read.

There’s a bunch of stuff on YouTube from Joe Rogan’s podcast on keto. He has nutritionists and doctors on all the time that specialize in it

Been doing it since February but not full bore no carb. So far I’ve lost 12 pounds. Been working out, too, so that has helped. It’s been tough because I love potatoes and bread, but I’ve managed. Biggest problem for me has been too much protein in my diet.

I do fee better and even though my weight isn’t down to where I want it yet, my clothes fit different. I can tell a difference

Friend of mine was diagnosed type II diabetic a few years ago and lothed the thought of being on meds. He went full keto and had dropped 20 pounds and is no longer diabetic. Impressed his doctor so much the doc started it too.

It works!

My wife just started something similar a week or so ago. I have no interest in it but she seems to be doing ok with it. She said she was hungry the first 5 or 6 days.

The people who say they’re “kinda” doing keto are just doing a low carb diet. Keto means that your body is primarily using ketones as fuel. But it’s become a popular buzzword to describe any low carb diet.

That's cool.

*takes bite out of bacon cheeseburger*
Bro check this out. I cooked a burger in the skillet today and seasoned it with Montreal steak seasoning. Then I cut the patty in half and used two Hawaiian rolls to make two burger sandwiches things, with a little mustard and mayo. The sweetness of the roll combining with the saltiness of the rub was delightful.

Don't lie, all you did was put it in the microwave.

I know I’m not full keto but low carb. Keto diets want you in the 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carb diet each day. I struggle with that. I am more 50% fat, 40% protein and 10% carbs right now. Not full ketosis but I can tell a difference. Probably why I dropped the weight over a longer period than those on full keto diets.

I work out in the mornings and don’t eat before I go, so that helps burn fat. I eat a good protein for breakfast with a healthy dose of a fat to help with muscle building.

My biggest problem is dinner. I usually have a salad for lunch and I don’t care for salads, so another one at dinner is not pleasing to me.

I’ll probably never go full keto, but I doubt I’ll ever go back to eating carbs like I was either.

Yeah, not sure what she is doing. I know it is no carbs but there is more to it than that. There are some vitamins and certain things involved in the first x number of days.

If it’s no carbs then it’s keto. She could be taking exogenous ketones to help her body transition to a ketonic state without the rough keto flu

Why the shit would y'all put yourself through something that sounds like it's rife with potentially terrible side effects? Just exercise more and eat smaller portions / healthier.

Some people seem to do really well on it, and it even eliminates weird health issues for some of those people. Personally I could never do it though

I'm being dead serious when I say I couldn't even do it for 3 days. Like............ no bread and no pasta? That eliminates like 90% of the things I either know how to make or simply enjoy making for meals.

Plus, no beer?! A purely liquor diet is a bad idea for me and my genetic predisposition to .. *sips drink*.. consume alcohol.

Liquor has sugar in it too through...

I’m with you. I love good beer way too much, and good bread is like crack to me

Keto is just another fad diet. Nobody will hear anything about it in another couple of years, if that. You don't need a specific "diet" to feel good and have a high quality of life. Just don't do anything stupid and watch what you're doing along with some exercise in between and you're fine.

How bout putting a couple of posts on here of what you are eating

Well, I can’t apeak for others, but I eat an avavado, eggs and sometimes sausage or bacon for breakfast. I usually eat a salad for lunch, sometimes with chicken, but most of the time without. Dinner is usually chicken or something like that with vegetables like squash, zucchini or broccoli. We mix it up too. Spaghetti squash and other vegetables substitutes, cauliflower and other stuff like that. Fruit is the tough one. Berries are ok, but some fruits are not because of the sugar. Honestly, sugars are worse than breads, IMHO.

As far as beer, I still enjoy beer, just not the same kinds. Most of the ones I liked were higher in carbs, so I went with some lower in carbs. Corona has a new low carb beer that is actually good, well for corona anyway. Some wines are fine and liquor without the sugary mixers are ok too. Just not able to drink as frequent. Alcohol is broken down like sugar by the body so you can’t go crazy, but it isn’t like you can’t enjoy them.

Like I said, I am not full no carb, but just cutting back has helped me lose 12 pounds. Exercise is key, but I enjoy some carbs, just not like I did before.

Now, one added benefit to losing weight and eating less carbs is that some other areas of my life have improved. At my age, I’ll take any improvements in my life that I can get!
