Like everyone I am glad ll of our players are returning...and we seem to be getting loads of pre season love and expectations by media all over the USA.

That is GREAT and normally I would be eager with anticipation for next season. However, This is not a 'normal" time for Carolina.

the NCAA hangs over us like the sword of Damocles and it can drop at ANY time over the next few?? months.

My greatest concern is a real one.. that the NCAA drops a post season ban on us for 2016( among other sanctions as well)....a dagger in our hearts that would negate everything and cause us to sit out the NCAA with perhaps our best FF shot since 2012.

No One wants to hear or think about it but folks this is a real possibility and one that would bring loads of smiles to the abcers out there who are frothing at the mouth just waiting for Carolina to "get theirs"

The Cuse penalties IMMEDIATELY caused everyone in the media to say well now what happens to CAROLINA??

"THEY should he hammered MORE" is the mood our there and it is not gonna be satisfied with some scholly reductions

a poste season ban in 2016 would be a huge hit and one that is JUSTIFIED by the media stooges and abcers who reside in the bowels at d00k ,KY, State and everywhere else

If a postseason ban happens (which I don't think it will), it won't be in 2016. I'm almost certain of that.

At this point I barely care what the penalties are, I just wish the shoe would drop. The program has to get past this before it can recover. UNC is off the radar for many recruits because they have no idea what's going to happen.

A little off topic, but is there any chance that this is over before the start of next season? Like a decision of any type?

Just a thought, The Wainstein Report took 8 months (February - October). It's been 8 months since the NCAA returned as well (July 1 - ?)

Imho, the NCAA is undercutting what they can do by going UNC in filing the motion for dismissal of the lawsuits against UNC. They are declaring that the oversight of the classes do not fall under their oversight. This could be a huge statement as to what penalties could be handed out. I may be wrong , but if some of those better in the know than I am could speak on these thoughts.

baby expand on this I am not aware of what you are referring to .What is the NCAA position vis a vis these lawsuits
?? what lawsuits are we talking about????... there are so many tough to keep track
Splain please.

It would affect the fans more than the players IMO. I think a lot of the players came back to improve their NBA stock. If they play well in the regular season while not being allowed to play in the postseason, they'll be fine. The Syracuse stuff isn't stopping Rakeem Christmas from being a 1st round pick.

In theory, you would think the fact that everyone came back is a good sign in term of the NCAA investigation, but that may be a big leap of faith.

But if that happens, I don't think the way the players play changes. We may see a little more selfish ball, but a major reason why they came back was to improve their stock and that won't get affected much if the worst happens.

Key, i was referring to the lawsuits by D Ramsey and R McCants. The NCAA took the position that because UNC was a member institution of the overall organization, as long as the classes mmet the minimum standards set, they had no authority in the administration of these classes.

Minimum standards:
1) Classes opened to all students.
2) Competent member of faculty assigned.
3) Assignment/work given to participants.
4) Work turned in and grades posted.

Trying to find the article in the NJ paper i was reading to link it here.

I don't see a post season ban happening for two reasons. First, this will end up playing out as academic fraud that was installed by those on the academic side to assist all students, not setup as a crip major for athletics use. Did many players know about it, and jumped on that easy train to a degree? Yes. And I am sure that some coaches had to know the courses were easy, but didn't make a stink be a use they didn't initiate it, and it made it much easier on the academic expectations for different teams. But athletics didn't foster the actions so would be hard to find them liable at sanction time. Secondly, college basketball is big business. And UNC is one of the major attractions. No way are they going to allow a higher ranked UNC team get kicked to the curb. That would cost major bucks to all parties involved. With as much noise as has been made about all of this, I would expect penalties of some sort to be handed down or the critics will implode. I see a lose of a scholarship here or there, but nothing close to banishment from post season play.
