He's my new love affair. Don't get me wrong, Marcus is the man. And Brice is becoming a monster. JB, JJ and Meeks are all integral pieces to our team reaching its full potential. Without any of the starters, we're not a complete team (get well soon Meeks!). But I can't love Hicks anymore than I do right now.

He's only playing about 17 minutes per game. But he's having a tremendous impact in those limited minutes. He's only averaging 9 and 4. But he's soooo efficient. He's shooting a team best 67% from the field and a much improved percentage from the FT line (77%). And that last one is key as he is getting to the line more than any player on the team!

His averages don't tell the whole story either. His points and defensive plays are timely. Meeks has missed the last 3 games and Hicks has stepped up and scored in double figures in all 3. His passing has improved immensely as has his overall court awareness. He's getting more and more comfortable and if his progression continues at this pace, and we have great team success, Hicks, IMO, is the most likely of all our players to be an early entry for the NBA draft. JJ was the guy everyone thought would have a breakout year. And there have been some saying Meeks might look to enter the draft after this year. But Hicks has shown to have the highest ceiling of any of our underclassmen. He has superb athletic ability and he's starting to use it. He went up strong, in traffic, a couple times yesterday and flushed it. He wasn't making those plays last year or earlier this year. His combination of bounce, power and fluidity are making pro scouts take notice.

Yesterday LaPhonso Ellis was calling the game and was raving about Hicks. I thought that was funny because Hicks has been overlooked and it took Ellis to be the guy to finally show him some love. The funny part about it is that Hicks reminds me a lot of Ellis.

Anyway, just wanted to give Hicks the credit he deserves. Keep after it, young man. You got a fan in me.

Agree 100% .. Hicks is a VERY important part of this team (especially depth wise) and I bet you about half way throught the conference season you will see a much better player. Even though we all hate injuries the PT he's getting now is very positive and all that young man needs is some floor time. He already has the body, mentality and skill set to be a really good player .. just needs a little more time to get the confidence and court presence/awareness a little better. I've already got my spot on the Hicks bandwagon ..

Agree 100% ...been waiting on him to break out and it seems like he's finally progressing ..love watching him play and very happy he's a Tar Heel

If the Heels win the title the entire starting 5 plus Hicks "may" leave (Paige and Brice are seniors). Don't expect anyone to agree, but Berry will not stick around if he is the starting point guard on a National Championship team. This would be good for recruiting also.

We'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle if our starting five left in addition to Big Joel.

I love Hicks as well, really rounding into a great player. If we do in fact win the championship this year, he'd be a vital 6th man coming off the bench a la Marvin Williams and Ed Davis on the 05/09 championship teams, same position as those two, although not quite the same type of player as either of them. I'm sure there are plenty of NBA GMs that would love to get him on their squads, but I'm just happy we get to enjoy him in Carolina blue for a little while longer.

I'm really impressed with Hicks as well. It's great to see a kid stay in school and develop his game. I look forward to watching him continue to improve the rest of the season.

First and foremost Mr Hicks is a great, selfless, young man, his potential is limitless..everything I've ever read and witnessed, he's almost too passive..I wouldn't trade him for anyone, but I wish he was a little meaner ..Heels! He'll be a Tar Heel next year, but if we win it all who knows

I agree, I've thought for a long time that Hicks has the most potential/highest ceiling of anyone on the team. I'm glad LePhonso noticed it and showed him some love!
Hick's is my favorite player by far on this team!

Arch, you got that right. My concern is that the Heels make it to the Final Four and don't win it all. Then a mass exodus. OUCH!

I love Hicks to, just really hope he cuts down on the fouls because that is the main reason his playing time is as low as it is. He has this funny knack about him, many times he seems like he is out of control on a break but has this knack for getting the ball up and over the rim and it finds a way to fall in. It is a little like T-50 putting up some of the shots he did that found a way to fall in.

One thing that is not often mentioned about Hicks is that ultra quick first step he has and he combines that with being a very quick riser off the court. Brice is amazing with how quickly he gets up on his jump but Hicks is not far from his match and that first step has a little bit of JMM in him. Hicks may be the most improved guy we have and IMO that would not be close if he didn't get in to as much foul trouble.

Come on guys! Enjoy the ride and quit worrying about what happens down the road. Y'all gonna be frettin so much you forget to enjoy this bunch. ;)

Agreed. Enjoy the final four run (hopefully) and worry about 16/17 season when it happens. Doubt we lose Berry/Pinson and even if we do, Roy will get a couple of grad transfers to field a respectable team for a year.

I'd be willing to lose our starting 5 and Hicks for another championship this year. We would probably pick up what ever talent is left in 2016 and get a major recruiting class in '17.

No way on this entire planet will Berry go pro regardless of this season's outcome...not in a million years, nowhere near ready

Hicks s is our secret weapon and I feel he should be starting over the "senior" James

Hicks has a huge upside yet to come. If he cuts out the silly foul or errant pass he is one of the most dangerous guys on the court.

Hicks needs to be available to fill in for Brice. BOTH have a tendency to pick up the "cheap" fouls.

You have to save some firepower on the bench to come in or there is too big a drop of in offense when you sub. Additionally, Hicks' history til this year has been to play tentatively and under perform. Bringing him in off the bench addresses both issues mentioned. Trust Roy just a little bit folks.

You are right. I was talking to a Dook BB fan Sunday at church about the field goal at the end of their bowl game. He had not even seen the play. Of course he pulls for FSU at football.

Mikey, that is the problem right there, neither of those 2 fellas seem to be able to stay out of foul trouble in most games. The hard thing for me has been watching Joel James start and see really nice passes clang off his mits for 3 or 4 minutes until Isiah gets in. I love the big kid but Joel has Roberto Duran syndrom, "Hands of STONE"! LOL

Yes, watching James can be very frustrating! For a guy with such a soft jumper he sure can't hold the dern ball on a really good pass. I'll be glad when we get Meeks back.
