I think Huffman will do fine as the center for UNC

I think a few of the new bigs may surprise some people early on. I expect by being in an environment where you have basically unlimited individual instruction and strength/conditioning with some of, if not the best players and coaches in the world .. then throw in the fact you are playing against and with really good players almost daily the opportunity to improve quickly is there and UNC is well known for developing their big men. Looking forward to seeing the latest edition of the NCAA Champion Tar Heels take the floor this fall. Fairly good mix of players and with JB and Theo leading the way the chemistry and fun level should be awesome... jmho

I hope these guys get a LOT of help and workouts in during the off season.

Are they already on campus? If not, when do they get here?

IIRC there were rule changes a few years ago that allow more contact between players and coaching staff over the summer. Plus, we have great older players who come back and work with our new guys. Do we know which alums we will be seeing this year?

Point being that one of the biggest worries is that these frosh bigs won't be ready. Not being ready is pretty normal. But if they can get ready over the summer, that maximizes their chances of helping the team this year.

The other problem is that even if they get ready, they may not be able to keep up. Think Brice, who started out looking pretty good as a frosh, but fell behind as the season wore on.

I have good feelings about Brooks and Huffman. Brooks looks fairly skilled. But I don't know if he can handle the pounding by better players. Huff looks like he could handle he pounding, but I can imagine him picking up a lot of fouls.

I have no clue about Manley.

I think Brooks is more ready right now than Huff.

But Huff seems like he's got a fantastic work ethic so who knows.

Spacey hit the nail on the head. If we can get 12-15 pts and 10 boards out of that position combined we will be fine.

3 headed monster need 12-10 out of that position nightly..
Luke played about 14 minutes and averaged 5.5 and 3.9. I think he'll be better but he'll also play more, so his efficiency will drop. Let's say his improvement is offset by the drop in efficiency, and his minutes double to 28. He'd average 11pts, 8reb.

If you're right with 12-10 from the freshmen playing C, that's 23-18 from our 4 big men over 80 minutes.

For comparison's sake, 2016-17 got 36.9 points and 23.9 rebounds from Meeks, Hicks, Bradley, and Maye over 76.3 minutes.

We don't have to be quite as high scoring a team as we were last season to be successful, but we can't give up 12 points a game from our front line offense (and possibly allow more scoring at the same time against our front line).

We'll need to make up some of those lost points (and hopefully some of the lost defense) in the back court and wings.

I agree WWJD. I think we'll by necessity be more perimeter oriented than we've been in a while. The freshman bigs are going to take time to develop but they'll have to play significant minutes, again out of necessity. We're going to need consistent scoring from the SG position. One or two of Kenny/Brandon/Jalek/Platek/ is going to have to step up considerably if we're to have success. Of course, if Cameron is released to play and can help Theo man the SF position effectively, we could be pretty darn good.

The one positive about losing Tony is that Brooks and Huffman will get more PT than they would have if Tony had returned. That's not good for the upcoming team's chances but will be good for their development in the long run. I believe either Brooks or Huffman will have to start. Immediate PT will speed up their learning curve and make them productive earlier than many suspect, I believe.
