We run into a hot team and get behind with our 3 point shooting as miserable as it is. We are toast in the tourney!

Been stressing it all year. Been repetitive all year about it as well.

We're never going to be a great 3pt shooting team. We're never going to be a high volume 3pt shooting team.

But here's the bottom line.

In terms of percentage of team points coming from 3, we rank 340th in the country. That's third worst. Since we don't shoot it well and almost never shoot it, we have to allow fewer 3pt makes and takes. Our 3pt defense percentage ranks 286th in the country. Yet we allow 36% of our opponents FGA's to be 3's. Bad combo.

That's the amazing thing about last night, in no way did dook beat us with the three point shot and momentum, swings they generally get from them -- it was pure old one on one penetration and finishing by dook that we could not stop.

Agreed. That's not just amazing - its frustrating. They didn't beat us at the FT line or at the 3 pt line. Didn't beat us rebounding. We didn't have a bad number of TO's. Heck, I don't even know if our defense was terrible. Somehow we've got to be able for our guards, who are supposedly very good shooters, at least on open shots / in practice, to knock down even 30% of their 3's, 40% of their twos. Is that too much to ask?

The frustrating part is last night seems about as beatable as Duke will be for a while. If we couldn't get them last night, given the way Brice was dominating, when can we get them?

Edit - I get that they scored 18 more than us from three. But if you told me they made 7 3s and shot around 40%overal and made fewer FTs than us, I'd say we win by 8-10.

When we have a coach that will call timeouts, and attack their weaknesses. Honestly, a lot of us rip on Roy for not making in game adjustments. I now think that isn't entirely accurate. It seems like when things aren't working, Roy gets hard-headed and refuses to change things up. However, when something is working to perfection (i.e. Brice dominating down low) - Roy decides it's a good time to see what we can do from the perimeter.

Maybe we'll beat them if injuries and/or poor recruiting forces us into a short bench like they had. If Roy only has 6 non-blue steel players to play - then he can't experiment with all of his terrible lineups. If he only has 6 guys - they'll inevitably get tired, and he'll have to call timeouts just to get them a breather. Having a shortened bench could really be a huge benefit to save Roy from himself.
