as to why Carolina can't get a goog power forward in the 2017 class. A freshmen would have to compete with Luke Maye for playing time. I look at what's left in the top 100 and there isn't even a power forward left to recruit. It really is difficult to understand. How can a kid and his family watch Carolina play and not be foaming at the mouth at the system and the amount of playing time available. That's my rant but I'm absolutely amazed.

Agreed. I don't wanna hear about the NCAA either. There's something else going on. Makes zero sense. We play a style that recruits have always drooled over as well.

For some reason, Roy didn't target and offer many bigs in the 30-70 range in the rankings. IMO, this has historically been a sweet spot for Roy and I wish he would have focused on bigs in this range more for 2017. As for 2018, I am concerned with our post recruiting due to that fact that so much focus seems to be on Zion and we do not seem to have much emphasis on a PF or C in the class right now with early signing period less than a year away. I liked how Roy cast a wide net in 2016 but didn't really see him do that for 2017 and he hasn't yet for 2018.

Careful, you're gonna get a bunch of people telling you to stop focusing on the future and that you're being "negative".

Anyway, I imagine Roy thinks Manley or Huffman can be solid contributors by their sophomore year, or that Maye makes strong enough strides to be a starter by next year. Vanderbilt is no longer an option, and banking on Knox is the same as the aforementioned.

2018 is too early to start making worrisome judgements, because I know we've had some looks at a few big guys, like David McCormack and Naz Reid. Still, usually offers are made by recruits' junior year. So it's a bit troubling we don't have a single offer out to a post player yet. Hopefully we look into the 6'9 kid from High Point before he starts getting national attention.

I don't see Huffman as a starter next season. If Huffman is a starter the Heels may be looking at the NIT. Manley is a possibility if he has a jaw breaking senior year. Many are projecting that Manley with jump to at least a 4-star if he has an injury free year. If Knox does not sign which is doubtful at this juncture, I hope Roy can get a 5th-year senior or a de-commit from another school. I agree that it is critical that the Heels bring in someone outside the current roster and current 2017 commits.

You gotta admit, seeing this as the top thread in the forum when we're absolutely steamrolling teams right now is frustrating.

This is the time when I turn my recruiting eyes off and instead just focus on our guys out there playing now. I'll care about Vandy's announcement, but until Knox, it's all about 16-17 squad.

I really think it's Dookies or UNC for him(Knox). But it's going to completely come down to how this season goes. If the way the current team is playing continues....? FF or greater and essentially the entire starting front court graduates or leaves early. I don't think it's likely but with his measureables and still developing strong skill level Bradley could be drafted in the late 1st round if he keeps putting up 10 and 6 all season off the bench. In this case with or without Bradley leaving? , I think it's a no brainer Knox goes to UNC because of the playing time to go along with playing style/tempo. He is a 3/4 and he can come in and play 25-30 MPG at the 3/4. Right timing sometimes is as much about the fit with the recruit and school as it is one and done hype and all these aesthetics that play into the media hype machine. Knox seems like he is going to school knowing he is a one and done potentially but would enjoy college for 1-2 years while he can and make the most of the time. Eventually the financial security will make too much sense but he seems like a kid that would enjoy the college experience as well. Not just looking for a 9 month parking spot before hitting the league.

Idk where your getting the info that Knox isn't likely right now. From what I've read it's very much up in the air and many think it's a unc vs duke battle in the end. I think because of our connections with him and Florida pipeline I am saying we get him, just a feeling. But right now there aren't many tea leaves to read.

Really? Pretty much everyone out there says we have ground to make up on Duke. We have our OV to do that, but there are definitely tea leaves out there.

True. But I think it's more about how this thread was brought about. The context was way too dramatic.

The topic is one that many have been talking about well before the start of the season and could still be addressed now. Especially since we don't have another week couple of days until our next game. Perhaps just not in such a theatrical way.

And you think he'll be ready to start day 1?

Regarding Knox, I don't buy that it's 50/50. We definitely have ground to make up, and that may include UK as well.

But having an even better start of this season following the one last year is a good start. And Jackson will be the key to swaying it in our favor. So far, he's having a great start to his junior season and can show off how Knox could thrive in our system.

And on a positive note, I don't buy that Knox is a done deal like Carter and Trent Jr. were. I think he'll actually hear us out. So who knows.

Well apparently you arent reading the same things I am on four corners then.

Edit- deleted. Dont know if its ok to share.

I mean our insiders seem to not be pointing too strongly to Duke or anyone really right now. Id put my money on them as to actually having an inside track to whats going on. They seem to be implying it will be a good while before anyone knows where hes leaning.

Well far be it from me to discredit anyone with far more access than me. I'm just speaking off of previous recruitments I've seen. He took an UV to FSU over the weekend, so I imagine his mind may not be 100% made up.

I don't deny that he's not 100% sold, but plenty of our targets haven't been "100% sold" in the past as well. And like I said, time will tell.

Can you imagine how it would be if UNC didn't have a Final Four caliber team right now in addition to dealing with not signing players like Washington, Vandy and Knox to play the 4 next season? It would be absolutely miserable around here. The urgency of signing a player like Knox to play the 4 next season cannot be understated folks. No one can expect this team to win the title each year, but shouldn't we expect the team to make the Dance each year and make a decent showing? The Heels need a Knox type player to play the 4 next season to keep the momentum going. Beyond 2017 looks pretty good for the Heels.

Trust me I have been very dubious about almost every elite weve gone after for the past few years. I felt like we were window dressing at best. I think Knox is a different story.

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE TOP RECRUITS DUKE AND KU AND UK AND OTHERS ARE GETTING AND NOBODY...I MEAN NOBODY, WANTS TO COME HERE!!!

Y'all keep burying your heads in the sand...WTF is going on here? Look at even 4 star Brooks. 247 had us at 90% and he picked Miss st. earlier this month!! ..again...WTF???

I know. I bet we'd be undefeated right now if Roy still knew how to recruit.

Sterling Manley, Brandon Huffman, Andrew Platek & Jalek Felton say hello. I guess you're calling them nobody's.

Brooks was a unique situation involving family. There is a lot more I'd like to say here but I'll refrain. I would like to ask you though, if you're happy with the start to our 2016-2017 season?

You have to relax. We're absolutely dominating this year.

How about we not spit in the face of the kids who DO want to come here?

"as to why Carolina can't get a goog power forward in the 2017 class" I assume you intended to say good power forward but I would suggest the word "good" was not accurate, I think what you are expressing is the fact we did not get a 5 star power forward (even thou we are still in it for Knox who is a 6'8-9" 5 star). I don't agree with the word good because IMO we actually got 2 VERY talented big men with college ready bodies. Notice what Huffman recently did vs Oak Hill, notice the thread now and link on Manley's play so far this season, they are absolutely killing it folks.

Folks have been upset for months now that Roy took 2 3star big men and didn't even get a 4 star. But who are these 4 star big men you would rather have? Oh, we are UNC and we are supposed to get 5 star big men, Roy offered most of the 5 star big men, they decided to pass on us, cool, I want a kid that wants to be here and I want a kid that is focused on becoming the best player he can be as well as helping his team be the best it can be. I want a kid to commit to us that Roy feels he can coach and will listen to what Roy teaches. I want kids that will help build team chemistry and not tear it down looking to get theirs so their NBA draft slot is maintained.

I would love to see folks get over this love affair with star rankings and realize that Roy builds great teams that play together and in doing so shows that less can be more. Huffman and Manley will help us just as much if not more than those guaranteed 5 stars that only spend a couple semesters at the school they pick, with all the ballyhoo what did Ingram really do for duke or skal do for Ky?
