I just said something similar to my DH & DS.
This is really bad timing. Hopefully, Joel has a wealthy family member. This is one of those threads that I wish would never have been posted on a UNC message board. Not now anyway. Regardless, I'm happy for them & hope they spend the rest of their lives happy & in love.

Good thought. That could be the case. I don't believe Joel would do anything to jeopardize the program. He loves UNC. I don't think he's guilty of anything. It just doesn't look good right now.

Not a bad answer to the question - "why stay in college when you can enter the draft as a second rounder"?
Or maybe, just maybe, the kid is good with the money he earned from previous jobs, like back in HS, saved it and maybe even invested it just so he could one day buy his future fiancee a nice ring. Or maybe his parents bought it. Or maybe it was any number of legitimate ways he, like many other young men, have managed to do the same thing without having to take money from a sleazy source. Like use one of the hundreds of credit card offers they throw at college kids these days and put it on one of those. I am sure he is assuming he will be playing pro ball somewhere in less than 6 months and can pay it off. Even if he doesn't, I doubt he will be unemployed long doing something that earns him enough money to take care of a credit card bill.

Oh, I agree. I know Joel wouldn't do anything to hurt UNC. My question about timing was him worrying about getting married as the most crucial stretch of the season is approaching. We need him focused. Heck, maybe it will be a relief and he'll find his shot again.
Regardless, I wish them both nothing but the best.

Congrats to Joel. It’s preety clear that he is a winner in everything he does. I wish both of them all the best, nothing better than two Heels uniting, looks like we’ll definitely have Berry Jr’s coming to Carolina. And meeting his future wife at Carolina will certainly add to another reason why Joel loves UNC. This is just the start of a great next couple of days for Joel and our Heels.
