In your opinion what is this years team lacking...

"It"

It's hard to explain but you know when a team has "it" and you certainly know when a team doesn't. We definitely don't have it. In fact, we're negative with "it". If we got some "it", we'd only be back to level. We need a lot of "it".

Outside shooters. Havent had a consistant shooter since Ellington left.

Wrong. Hairston shot the same percentage from 3 his soph year as Ellington did in his. Bullock shot better his Jr. Year than Ellington ever did.

A shooting guard that can shoot and a center that can dominate the paint! Pretty much covers it!

PJ Hairston and Reggie Bullock say hi
Tell them I said hello as well. PJ could shoot but he didnt help us at all. Reggie couldnt hold Wayne's jock in a shooting contest.

% are not the only thing to consider. Clutch shooting is important. Wayne was clutch. Just ask Clemson.

echo the outside shooter/scorer to open things up... but more importantly a second "go to" guy besides Marcus( does not have to be an outside shooter per se)

Mental toughness would help too

That is indeed a point that is overlooked. I can't tell you what Wayne's percentage was shooting the 3. But I know he made them when they counted most. So to me, he shot 100%. That's not to disparage Reggie or PJ. But the fact is that neither proved to be a big game player. Does it have something to do with supporting cast? Sure. But thems the breaks. Wayne gets remembered as one hell of a shooter that stepped up and made baskets when it meant the most. If he traded spots with Reggie, would their fates be opposite? Maybe. But that's irrelevant. Wayne was given the chance, delivered and because of that, we owe it to him to think of him as a far better shooter.

Physical/mental toughness.
Consistent outside/3 point shooting.
Someone who can create his own shot with the game on the line.

Reggie came up with some clutch shots too - some daggers and "need to haves" that I can't place, but one big one that stands out is the game tying shot against Ohio in the Sweet Sixteen to force OT. That team w/ Barnes plus Marshall plus Reggie had plenty of shooting.

I think there's hope for JJ and Berry to develop into shooters you have to respect (a la every player between his Freshman and Senior year at Dook, and guys like Terry, Ray and Ty Lawson) and make us tougher to guard next year with them plus Paige. Who knows maybe Pinson too. But we're going to have to learn to box out and take care of the ball if we really want to be better going forward. Not to mention keep guards out of the lane.

This.

Have some liabilities like every team but we can play with anyone at times and then we can have a 10 minute stretch where the wheels come off.

I completely agree.....Carolina's offensive philosophy in the past was, and is for the game to be played from the inside/out in a half court setting....That worked well when we had a Zeller, Hansbrough or Sean May because all those guys ran the floor, and could finish around the basket, and all 3 guys were pretty good from the FT line when fouled.....As mentioned above, Zeller had outside options with Bullock/Marshall, while Hansbrough had Ellington/Green/Lawson that he could kick the ball too, and May had Felton and that guy who didn't get an education while at Carolina.....

Unfortunately, we currently are undersized in the middle, have trouble finishing inside against bigger opponents, have trouble at times hitting a majority of our Free Throws when fouled, and we have one proven outside shooter who is slowed and hampered by Plantar Faciitis, and is averaging nearly 5pts less than he did last year....In other words, we got problems that ain't going to be solved this year or probably not even next year, unless some of our guys hit some kind of mysterious growth spurt between now and then?

I think alpha dog is a good place to start. I think that Paige and Brice Johnson both have all the tools to be that alpha dog, but lack the consistency to do so, Brice due to mentality and Paige due to injury.

In games decided by less than 10 pts Wayne hit 34% in 10 games and Reggie hit 48% in 9 games.

If only there was a word for hitting shots when needed.

Mental toughness, killer instinct, multiple (credible) outside shooting threats and "in your face" perimeter defense.

The offense is always initiated near the hash mark & never closer than the 3pt line. There is never any consistent point guard penetration & this team doesn't push the ball like a traditional UNC team. The team just plays too slow, as if they are intent to or have been instructed to run a set play on almost every possession. When our wings get the ball they are NEVER in a triple-threat position which makes it easy 2 guard the wings as well as double team inside simultaneously. No one on this team can create his own shot on a consistent basis. Lastly, this team is NOT physically tough at all!
