This isn't even open for discussion.

Arrived at work this morning to find that Google Chrome had been removed from my computer, and I can't download a new copy of it either. Stuck with an IT lockdown that only allows IE. The page rendering sucks, the scolling makes me feel like I have Parkinson's, and it has already crashed twice in the first 30 minutes. Also, pretty sure my bank info is already floating around the streets of Nigeria by now.

That's kind of surprising as most of us IT guys can't stand IE. I put Firefox and Chrome on every new build and keep them visible on the desktop while hiding IE. I'd much rather the employees use anything but IE.

My job also recently changed policies and now only allows us to use IE. What's worse, we have to use IE 9 due to some sort of security concerns. Not only is it garbage, it's horribly out of date garbage that's not even supported by most modern websites. Every time I turn on my computer at home after coming home from work, I feel like Dorothy stepping into Oz.

Do you know why they only allow IE?

Maybe my anger caused me to be unclear. I'm saying I can't stand IE either. Chome at home, and until yesterday at work as well.

No, I understood, I was just saying that it's surprising that your IT department wanted to change to IE as it's nothing but a pain in the ass to deal with. As luck would have it, I'm sitting here right now dealing with an IE issue where an app doesn't work...but it works just fine in Chrome and Firefox. Imagine that.

I think it's to simplify security issues by only having to deal with one browser. Apparently they will let you use a different one if you can demonstrate a "legitimate business need" for it, so I'm praying for the day that it stops working right on a site I use for work.

Ah, got it. Until recently, we've had the ability to run whatever browser we wanted, install apps, etc. This is all part of my employer's campaign to tighten up security across the board. I'm in healthcare and the industry is behind the times in many regards. You might have read recently that Anthem had a security breach that compromised an estimated 80 million patient records.

That's why I asked because there are more security holes in IE than any other browser, mainly because so many people use it.

Yeah, I heard about that so I can certainly understand them wanting to cut out the d/l'ing of apps and what not but to go to IE exclusively just seems odd to me. Time and time again IE has proven to be the most unsecured of the 3. I'd be miserable using it...haha.
