Market seemingly in a free fall (Thanks Obama)- is it time to get in the game?

We recently received some cash from sale of an asset and haven't done anything with it yet. Good time to jump in or should I wait for the dust to settle?

I've been wondering the same thing.

Market is bouncing back after this morning's free fall . .

this is very general advice but if you can stay long-term focused, you're good.
-average your way in.
-if you need the money soon (<1yr), put it in a bank not the market.
-don't play with high growth names right now, stick to quality and err on side of boring
-use broad market etf's if you're not comfortable analyzing companies

past several days, I've not been executing sales...unlike 2008 when we completely exited financials.
we're generally long-term buy and hold manager and have been net buyer...only really deal with very large cap companies.
there were a few bargains early this morning on co's with exceptional cash flow that pay above average dividends.

Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up some index type etf's. When the market gets too high IMO, I'll shed a little that have done real well and when it starts correcting (and I don't know if this is one or not) I'll buy up some with my profit. Thats worked out OK for the past 25 years.

Yes. IMO, This is a cyclical
bull market correction. The market may go down further, but that is impossible to predict. Most gains are realized on the intial move back up and you don't want to miss that. I am personally buying now is stages, but keeping some cash back for more bargains.

Yes. Not unexpected. Their market was up a ton before this downturn. Hope things get cheaper again tomorrow.

We're keying on same sectors except energy has been overweight through all of this. Not too good for comparisons but again we're long-term focused.

Personally, I've got most of my portfolio in US large cap (due to work...we eat our own cooking so to speak) but have been picking spots for diversifying into global equities and developed real estate w REITs and ETFs. I've been averaging into emerging markets and will probably do more than usual this week. Also starting to buy commodity index but will likely go short gold soon.
