Drake Maye has outperformed everyone's expectations this season. I think he could be the next Tom Brady. What do you think?

Tom Brady was a part time starter, part time player at Michigan. The staff loved the athleticism of Drew Henson, who also was a native of MI. Henson later would play in both MLB and NFL.

Other than that, could Maye become like Brady (and Peyton Manning): widely regarded as the best NFL QB in history? Perhaps. What I would love is Maye as Hesiman winner. A Heisman for UNC football would be a huge deal.

I don't think Tom Brady was anywhere near the same level QB in college.

I think Drake is more like the aforementioned Peyton Manning, in terms of college performance. And, this is just his first season! I hope the kid breaks every ACC record there is to break. NCAA Records, too! It's really hard to believe that we got Sam and Drake back-to-back.

No. He’s way better than Brady was in college. Nobody was talking about Brady for heisman

I don't know about all that, but I just want Drake to be the next Maye to win a national championship. ;)

He’d better join Beau as a “walk on” on the basketball team then. Or transfer to UGA or Alabama on the gridiron.

Let's pump the breaks. He's not even finished with his freshman year. It's a little early to think about him being the best QB ever.

Amen

I’ll add that I did see him make several NFL throws last night, but I’m sure plenty of freshmen QB’s have done that. I’m pulling for him but the jury is definitely still out.

whoa…i can’t go there.

and those comparing him to josh allen, even worse…he’s a freshman qb yet to even gain weight…he’s blessed with a solid arm and great anticipation, not to mention that clutch gene(brady like, sure).

brady and allen have elite everything…allen can not only run, he will seek contact.

if i had to compare him right now, it’s herbert.

And to waste that without a single ACC Championship? Virtually criminal. So there is much work to do.

Well, as pessimistic as I am, I really don't need a "championship" to enjoy the kid's ascendancy and his week-to-week performance. I said the same about Sam Howell when it was implied that he was "wasted" by the UNC staff, or whatever. I don't think he was wasted. They played him and they did the best they could.

You can enjoy the wins and sulk over the losses, like any fan. But, to insist that they (Drake or Sam, or whoever) are only successful, or that their contributions are wasted or fail, if the team can or can't win a championship just isn't something I agree with. Sam set records and he was so much fun to watch! He didn't get to win as many games as I would have liked, but he and the team won some great games. It would be awesome if the team managed to get those accolades, but watching Maye and Howell play at UNC will always be fondly remembered.

I have very fond memories of watching Phil Ford play PG, but I will never get over the fact that he was not a National Champion. At least he got to be ACC Champion.
