Is Duke untouchable?

UK fan here. Not surprised by anything that has come out. There are levels here, though. Coaches who dove in on the deep end (Miller), coaches who routinely back away from trouble (Roy is a great example, but believe it or not so is Cal), coaches who turn a blind eye...where does Duke fit in?

You can't tell me they got the top three recruits next year, all of whom play the same position, on the up and up.

We all know what Capel has been doing. The question is whether any of his dealings are involved with ASM or explained in the FBI documents. I guess we’ll see. Even if they’re not exposed, it’s obvious how dirty he is.

We'll find out soon enough. What's been released so far isn't enough to hit them IMO.

I was poised to "like" your post until I got to the nonsense about Cal. When asked about the FBI Sting he could not have looked more like the Guilty beefy faced goon he really is. "La Cosa Nostra? Why no, Senator, there is no such thing." The guy just oozed guilt and desperation.

Most of the schools coming out as dirty are no surprise to me, or to many others. Sean Miller wins bupkis but lands top recruits over coaches that do? Hmmmmm. Calipari was Capel/Kay/Dook until Capel actually came back to dook. KU, too. Texas bought Mo Bamba, count on it. LSU bought Ben Simmons. Dennis Smith to the hapless woofies out of the goodness of his heart? As one of our posters in the know likes to say - GMAFB! When things make no sense look for the money, follow the money, and you will get your answers.

Yeah, but UK lost out on a lot of those guys or we backed off. If we're Arizona dirty, don't those guys come to UK? Instead they are all going to Duke. If what you insinuate is true, Bamba signs with UK, Ayton signs with UK, and several others. We led for a long time on Zion.

Cal acts like a used car salesman. I get it. But UK has gone to great pains to keep the Aytons away. And as for Miller....there was a time when Roy couldn't win bupkis, either. What was his tournament record at Kansas? Just saying.

You guys have a team of one and wanna be dones. What are you talking about? UK always has a top 5 recruiting class. I think you all are even rated number 2 next year. Roy recruited Knox hard and you all still got him. Cal acts like more than a used car salesman. He acts like a guilty as hell used car salesman. Take a look back at his pressers on this subject and see if you can honestly say to yourself that this guy is not full of it and guilty as hell.

Sorry brother, but you are in for a big ol' rude awakening. Bam didn't come cheap and he bought Knox, just for starters.

Just saying? You do realize this is a UNC board right? Roy too the Jay Hawks to at least 2 championships games, and 2 other final fours at least... He won big there, and he wins even bigger back home. And guess what; he didn't have to do it with bought players... Just sayin

First, don't place Roy in a group with known cheaters like Cal who has a record of three universities who had violations and penalties as Cal slipped out of town.
Roy has no such record.
dook and capel and james don't get recruits cause they want to play in a gym that seats 9,800.
The Miller boys have always had issues.
As to uk, as the old song said, trouble ahead, trouble behind....y'all can thank cal.
Let me know when Roy turns up in the wiretaps.

Roy's record at Kansas was very much like Miller's at Arizona until the three or four years before he came to UNC. And he had sanctions at Kansas. I'm not making either of those two things up, and neither of them have anything to do with you.

Lol. Cal “backs out of trouble”. Hahahahahaha!!! Yeah he backs all the way out of this basketball programs before *&#$ hits the fan, signs elsewhere rinse and repeat..... rinse and repeat. UK is NEXT.

Roy didn’t win a title at KU. Sean Miller didn’t make one final four while paying for the best players. He’s a TERRRIBLE HC imo. He has zero clue how to call an offense.

Here's the egregious violations Roy was guilty of at KU:

The University of Kansas has discovered that Roy Williams ’72 gave his approval to some gifts of cash, clothing and alumni association memberships to graduating basketball players in 2001, 2002 and 2003 while he was the university’s head basketball coach, which Kansas has acknowledged to be in violation of NCAA rules. Other improper gifts occurred on Williams’ watch but apparently not with his direct approval.

The gifts, believed to be in the range of $50 to $400, were made by boosters of the Kansas athletics program.

Williams said in a statement released through UNC’s athletics department that he had made a mistake in thinking that graduation gifts were permissible under NCAA rules.

“I personally felt this was not a problem and evidently a communication problem led me to believe this was OK with our compliance department. Therefore, I told the alum a small ‘gift’ would be OK. I also stated the ‘gift’ shouldn’t be extravagant and there should be no campaign for this – just a personal graduation ‘gift,'” Williams said. “I did not know the rule that once you’re a student-athlete, you are a student-athlete until death.”

These graduates had all exhausted their eligibility at the time they received their gift. I hardly think a top recruit is going to commit to a school because he might receive a $400 gift when he graduates.

I don't know how many pay for play players there are out there, but I'm afraid it's fairly extensive in today's college game. And that's unfortunate. The money grab has ruined pro sports for me and it is gradually doing the same to my favorite sport of all, college basketball.

I'm not going to start casting stones because I will forever be sad that the AAS Department was allowed to run amok for so long. And it doesn't make it any more palatable knowing d00k has the equivalent in their Sociology Department, or that most major programs have theirs.

I'll just say that the recruiting success of a few schools has long smelled fishy to me. I think we're going to see many of our suspicions confirmed. And as a huge college basketball fan, that saddens me.

Cal backed away.... right into World Wide Wes.

Thanks for the laugh.

I disagree. CIS is a huge draw for recruiting. As college venues go, it's legendary. It's the annual site of CBB's biggest rivalry. It's always loud and bulging to capacity. CIS isn't just any 9800 seat location. I miss Carmichael a lot for the exact reasons that CIS is an attraction for players.

It sucks knowing the direction this is heading. But imagine the rollercoaster of emotions many have had over the last 10 years of accusations, badmouthing, and haters. Many knew things didn't look right. Personally, I will be glad if the lid blows off this thing. Basketball needs a shake up. If it means a few down years, and harsh penalties for some, then so be it. It would be even sweeter if we are clean on all accounts. It always felt the UNC brand should have been more appealing than it has been as of late. Back to back title games with one chip and still no serious consideration from big name players, except a few. I love this current team. They are playing well, and showing what true college basketball is. Especially from a true winning coach.

If this is all about paid for lunches for UNC and Puke, we are better off standing together on this one! We can battle the rest out on a basketball court. As long as the FBI sticks us with the same charge of our players accepting lunch, it is better for these two powers to work together on a solution to our very "little" problem. If we start going against each other both sides are going to start revealing things that haven't already been revealed or at the very least we will prolong something both programs need to go away as soon as possible.

Who wants to lay a wager down that OAD is over after next year? Or is OAD a collective bargain issue and can only be taken up again at the the time the current agreement is ending?

What? Wes hasn't been connected to any players we have gotten since Kidd-Gilchrist. He's a Nike guy. His job is to make kids loyal to Nike, not to Cal and Kentucky. If anything Wes is in K's corner and has been for a while.

Cal has backed away from several players in the last few years, players that we were early favorites on. When Roy does it, it's because Mr. Aw Shucks doesn't deal with handlers. When Cal does it, somehow it's still on him. I like Roy. He's probably my favorite rival coach. But you guys have this thought in your head that he never looks the other way. The whole academic thing proves otherwise.

UK athletics just put out a release saying they have looked into the Knox allegations and they are comfortable that no rules were broken. Tell me, how is this different than Tony Bradley?

You cry about Dook’s 3 recruits when UK basically signed the 3 top SF this year. Washington,Knox & Vanderbilt all play the same position.
Did that bother you?

Tony ate pizza with a agent AFTER he announced for the nba draft. He was looking at agents to sign with.

Tony and Knox appear to be the same. BAM and Nerlens, now that is significantly different...

If you truly have no worries about Cal, that is quite the impressive amount of blind fanhood.

No offense, but any decent program can fill a 9800 seat arena.
But, not any arena is Cameron Indoor Arena. Like it or not, that cracker box is a college basketball Mecca. I firmly believe that Cameron Indoor is a recruiting bonus for Duke. It has legendary status.

Just like out Jerseys In The Rafters are iconic.

how drunk are you? hopefully you're just be very sarcastic. that place is a dump and what oad cares a crap about a bunch of nerds doing stupid cheers

Dook’s not untouchable. And they dont get preferential treatment from ncaa despite what ky and our fans like to claim. It wouldnt surprise me if rules are being broken in their recruiting given the head scratching success as u stated. But if it comes out they will go down the same as anyone else. The whole ncaa conspiracy claims for/against certain schools is absolutely a joke. I liken it to flatearthers claiming nasa is lying about going to the moon.

The place is a dump. And i cant speak for how oad’s view the cheers but it is without a doubt the loudest most electric atmosphere i’ve ever witnessed personally for a game. Pretty sure oad’s notice that.
