Is Duke-Virginia the "NEW RIVALRY"?

I doubt it. UVA will have a tough time getting into a rivalry with any other team.

Their defense-first scheme usually sinks them against any team, tournament, etc., especially if they can't score. Look at the game tonight. They couldn't even score 50 points.

The bigger issue is Scheyer keeping the dookies at the very top for the next 35 years. He just outcoached Bennett and his team outplayed the Cavs. Dook had the game in Charlottesville stolen from them earlier this season.

Yeah, I'm not buying it. But that's what the talking heads said.

Now if we have 2 or 3 bad years, it will be harder to sell us as the world's best rivalry any more. And since I'm not optimistic about next season, we might be putting that reputation in jeopardy.

Of course if UNC-Duke loses that status, that doesn't mean the successor rivalry will necessarily come from the ACC.

What are some other candidate rivalries? UCLA-Arizona maybe? Kansas and someone?

It would take a while for another pairing to build up the consistency that UNC-Duke has delivered.

Right. Our rivalry with duke is over. We won it last year. They’re just looking for a new partner.

The UNC-dook rivalry is definitely going to change. For better or worse, Coach K was a nemesis. He was hated. That makes the rivalry stronger. Rivalries need hatred, on some level.

Jon Scheyer, Tony Bennett, and Hubert Davis are fairly, if not very, likable people.

If Jerry Stackhouse became the coach, then a lot of new rivalries might occur! He's got that ****-you'ness about him. Coach K had that. Dean and Roy had it on a more subtle level. I'm not saying I want Jerry Stackhouse to be the coach. I'm simply saying that the coach's personalities contribute to teams and rivalries.

I think Pitt and UNC might be a future rivalry. The Capels are jag-offs. Rivalries need jag-offs!
