Me personally I've never been quite fond of Roy's X's and O's or his substitution methods. I think kids and parents have those issues as well and it's culminated with a bigger issue that we do not have any ALL STARS in the NBA. Not one player under his time at Carolina has become a star in the NBA and recruits are realizing that. Hopefully this will all change with Barnes. Kids goal is a pay check in the NBA and right now you can't blame kids for wanting to go to program that does that. So until that changes it is hard to see a change happening with 5* recruits. We wanted to believe it was the NCAA probe but now that's lifted, and we still are not winning kids.

Hard to compete with what Dook and Kentucky are displaying. Dook has K and the Olympic team helps recruiting.. Cal has seemingly a lottery pick pipeline and one of the best if not the best fan bases. Recruits, coaches and parents (especially if one is a coach) are seeing these things like as player development or lack there of. A lot of scouts wonder why Barnes developed so slowly. Why Brice Johnson developed so slowly. Now there looking at Justin Jackson. Some say he digressed during the season. Some wonder if its the system that slows down player development. Recruits may not want to be in a system that may take them 3-4 years to develop. Some recruits prefer to be in a system that takes the chains off. Just my thoughts but I hope we can turn it around for "18.

Agreed. Harrison Barnes is doing well, Tyler Zeller just signed a big ol' huge contract, guess that's chump change...Danny is coming back from rehab/injury...some of our fans must have been born in the late 1990's...no historical reference for them.
If the student/athlete wants to play in a "different" system, go right ahead. One of the guys mentioned above has an NBA ring to show you.
Roy can't recruit, UNC sucks and we have no players in the NBA, well, boo f'ing hoo. Find a new team.

I actually think our up tempo style lands us more recruits.

What exactly do you not like about Roy's X's and O's?

Find a new team... who the hell are you? I said ALL STAR you pompous prick. We run the same offensive set every time down the court and it is pretty predictable. You honestly think players care about ring in the NBA? The ones I know care about a pay check. We have had one max player under Roy, and thats unacceptable by any UNC fan standard!

448 Posts, 1 like. I see why.

So we don't run the same set at all...we have a transition set, a secondary transition set, a few motion sets and a zone set that we run stuff off of. This isn't high school, no team runs much more than this.

And yet he has won two national titles and within a hair of a third with all those scrubs. I think what players do once they leave college is up to them. That's not on Roy.

We have 13 ACTIVE players on nba rosters right now! I think that says alot. About 98% of college basketball teams would be preaching that from the rooftops to recruits. Let that sink in.

100%
It's up to Roy to recruit and coach the UNC basketball team, not a pseudo NBA d-league squad.
It's pretty apparent that Roy is recruiting for kids who want to play for UNC, with the system, style and culture that is there.

None of Cal's NBA players at UK have rings.

Last player from UK to win an NBA Title was Rajon Rondo.

Oh my dear Lord. Just when I thought the remote corners of Bizzaro World had been reached....

I agree with the notion that Roy is running a college basketball program and not an NBA factory. However, there is no denying that star power in the league is a hot commodity right now. If we could get a player that stayed for a year or two and became a starter for a team in the NBA it would do us wonders.

I'm also ecstatic at the kind of year Harrison Barnes is having. If he can keep up that kind of production, hopefully kids will take notice of that.

I don't understand the 5* and AS correlation. I doubt anyone is dim enough to think a college coach impacts whether or not a guy goes to the NBA and becomes an AS. I get the knock that a 5* may stay a year longer here or whatever but the AS argument is just completely illogical. The NBA not only has the absolute best coaches and best training in the world but they are also pretty patient. If anything, the fact that Roy's players don't become stars is a credit to his coaching and how well he gets them to perform in college considering how much success he has had.

No argument, a couple of top players will lift the profile. The reality is, it may take longer than some would like for that to happen.

448...come back after you learn a bit more about UNC basketball.

You under estimate the dimness of HS kids.

Haha, I don't blame HS kids or think it is a reflection on them for thinking that. I mean, they are teenagers. I also get how having stars in the NBA helps the brand. I'm talking more about people who should know better, which include some of our fans. Also, it is more of a point about Roy and his coaching and the correlation there. Not that he is above critique, but I think Roy is severely underrated as a coach by many of our own fans. I get that rival fans would think that. They are mostly fools when it comes to us as that is what rivalries do to people. Our own fans should know better though.

Indeed they should, unless they're 5 years old.
