It's a shame the U.S. cannot get this one right

the for-profit medical insurance industry is still in charge of healthcare in the US
Don't forget the government (Medicare and Medicaid). The amount of red tape required to receive medical care in this country is ridiculous. The current shift to value-based reimbursement -- while its heart is in the right place -- only makes the provision of healthcare more cumbersome.

Incidentally, I was with a friend who had a very similar (positive) medical experience in Havana, Cuba when a piece of stone from a building renovation fell and hit him in the head. He had a laceration about 4 inches long. There was a medical clinic across the street from where it happened. He walked in, gave them his name, and immediately got the wound cleaned and closed with butterfly bandages. No paperwork at all. He needed stitches, though, so we had to take him to the hospital.

The cab driver drove our group of 5 to the hospital and absolutely refused payment, which was interesting. My friend arrived at the ER, completed a basic 1-page document, and was taken back for stitches with no wait whatsoever. We were in and out of the hospital in about 15 minutes.

It's sad because I don't see anything changing here at all. Greed literally consumes this country and a lot of people aren't even aware of where this control really comes from. It's disguised as left and right fighting over who has the correct way to run the country, all the while the controllers sit there laughing at them, thinking of new ways to distract them! Obama has been the last 8 years of distraction and now one of these two nut cases will do it for another 8.

There is a difference between insurance and care. Health care can not be a right unless doctors are slaves.

The greater degree the gov't is running HC the higher the costs and poorer the care has and will become. Why do you think college costs are growing faster than ever at a time when college courses are free online for tons of great schools?

So is that the case for the other countries that are doing it differently? I read a lot of comments at the bottom of that article and a good many were from other countries who think we are wacky with our system. Some even moved here to the US and were appalled by the drastic difference.

Also, I work in healthcare and even when I have a job that pays considerably less, I still do my best and give 100% just like I did when I made a lot more. My quality of care never changes because of money.

There is nothing wrong with money. It is a blessing. The LOVE of money is evil. We should love God, ourselves, others as much as ourselves. If one loves money before any of that, that is the problem.

Also, to think Europeans, etc. don't strive for $, you are naive. Just look at the Queen's digs. All the $ ends up with the bureaucrats in government or royalty?

Same thing happens with Obama Care. All the $ goes to insurance bureaucrats and government bureaucrats.

A for HC. If The UK HC systems is good, why are their teeth so bad?

I thing we should eliminate "pay for it all" heath insurance anyway. Just offer catastrophic coverage (like when it first started) and if one wants to go to the doctor for every time they stub their toe, pay our of pocket. Cost will immediately go down.

If you have a chronic illness, pay out of pocket for some and some covered under catastrophic plan.

Oh, I forgot. I think it's in the Beatitudes: "Blessed are the wealthy and those who are abundant in shekels! For they shall have it made in the shade!" Good point.

I would apologize for saying they don't strive for wealth... except I never said they didn't. Of course they do. They certainly used to. That's from where we descended!

ETA:

I can say that what I meant to say was America = THE LOVE OF MONEY!

Okay, if you say so. smh

Guitar sales?
Whenever possible. I try not to gouge people and/or misrepresent my merchandise. I also don't promise they will do something that they can't do. And, I don't force them on people by law. I also don't remove all the competition.

Oh ok, good to know. I'm glad there is one person out there that's a bastion of morality while the rest of us are just a bunch of money-grubbing scoundrels.

That's good to know and I applaud you for that. However, it's my belief that you are the exception and not the rule. I also trend more and more daily to man being inherently bad rather than being inherently good. It's a more realistic point of view and it also prevents disappointment as often.

So is that the case for the other countries that are doing it differently? .

Please stop this. America should never be compared to another country for any reason. We are so different from any country on earth. We are a free society with 350 million people and made up of backgrounds that couldn't be any more different. The next time some idiot liberal tries to tell me that this or that works in Denmark, my head might explode. We are not Denmark and we can never be Denmark. We are not the UK and we can never be them. I don't want to be anyone but us. But with that I realize that things that work in other countries simply cannot work here. I'm ok with it.

The only problem with that is.... it's not really working very well here.

Also, I know many in my profession that I work with that are not in this for the money. Yes, there are a few and they suck at what they do anyway. You don't want to know the crap that some of this A-hole doctors that only care about themselves and money do. They provide below standard care and I have witnessed it. I want no part of their practice. So to say we would suddenly get substandard care is a joke... we already have it now in some cases.

In the future it may create a void in the amount of healthcare providers, sure, but right now I do not see that being an issue. People who work as nurses, doctors and such do it because they love helping others. EMS workers make sh*t wages but they do for reasons other than the money. Those are the best people you will ever meet, trust me! They are so kind to others and give beyond giving. So blow that smoke up someone else's butt! You have no idea! Sorry.

Excellent point. A lot of people don't seem to understand this concept. There is just certain things that other countries can do that we can't and vise versa. People tend to want to look at these things in a vacuum, but it's never that simple.

these same people live in a vacuum or should I say their brain does..

This issue is so confusing it's difficult to keep track of sometimes. But I do believe Bernie Sanders style, Scandinavian type model health care cannot be implemented in this country successfully, mainly due to population size and the heterogeneous society we live in.

However, we can do better when it comes to the health of our citizens. Let's use a little of that American ingenuity we're always bragging about.

Come on people, we just cleaned house in the Olympics :D
