Supposedly. But we were also told that Ruder was neck to neck with Howell, and Ruder also did nothing after he left. Maybe Mack just says such things to try to get guys to stick around.

And what we know is that he never challenged the Arkansas starter and was never close to being #1 during this Spring when the job had been left open.
