Just got back from the Jamboree games. Wanted to provide a few thoughts since it seems extensive stats/footage won't be released.

Overall: We didn't look super sharp until the third game. Starting lineup in game 1 was Seventh, Theo, Cam, Luke, and Brooks. Pretty great shooting from Cam and Platek, and very nice defense from Theo and Kenny. Freshman bigs looked nowhere near as good against D-1 competition, and our starting lineup for the third game was Felton-Kenny-Theo-Cam-Luke. Keep in mind for all three games we played at least half the time with 0-2 starters in. Walker Miller and Platek both played extensively, though Rush only got a couple of minutes.

I'd guess there were 4-5k people there? Fairly empty, even moreso than against Barton, but this game was not really well publicized. Greensboro was like 5-6 from three against us, so that somewhat mitigates "losing" over the 13 minute period. We still didn't look good.

Felton: Didn't do too much in the first two games. Defense looks a little better. Had some really great moves near the end of game 3 on two drives but couldn't finish either one. Hit a three in the first game, but I don't remember him scoring much else.

Woods: Similar to the Barton exhibition. Didn't stand out on offense, although he had a couple of nice drives for scores and hit his two free throws. Made a couple of sloppy turnovers.

Platek: I believe he was 3-3 from three. Didn't do to much else and lost his guy on D several times against UNC-G to give up open three's, but he can really shoot.

Theo: Wasn't his best game, but remains the leader out there. I believe he was 1-2 from three. He played some point for a few minutes, with both Felton and Woods out of the game. Will be interesting to see if we run that lineup at all on Friday. Went out near the end of game 3 when an opposing player shoved him and he fell hard. Looked like he was just slightly shaken up, so hopefully no biggie.

Kenny: Looks very tentative shooting still. I think 0-2 from three with an airball, he also passed up another one that was wide open to take a closer shot. He did really hustle on D, drawing a couple of charges and active in tie-ups and steals, with one charge that got the crowd riled up after a dirty foul on Theo.

B-Rob: Also passed up 1-2 open threes. He looks confident driving and had a couple of layups, but i think he needs to shoot better to play a ton. He played a lot when we were getting smoked by UNC-G. He also missed all three of his free throws that I remember, and was visibly upset after the third miss.

Cam: Was 3-4 from three or something like that. Looked really good shooting the ball (though he missed a free throw), and had nice and-1 drive too. Played only 10 or so minutes over the last two games.

Luke: Played pretty well, hit a couple of threes and had nice plays on pick-and-rolls again. Some good rebounds, although against these bigger guys he also lost a couple of boards and allowed guys to score over him.

Brooks: Looked solid, a few more nice scores though not great defense. Not really a rim protector nor great on switches.

Manley: Had a nice bucket or two. Looked quicker on defense this time, and got quite a few boards.

Huffman: Looked better than Miller but worse than the other two freshman bigs. I think he had one or two blocks? He also had two big dunks, though he is so raw offensively. Lost a ball under the basket, had another one that just went right off his hands, and had a super ugly turnover where he dribbled out to three but there was no one there to give the ball to so dribbled it off his foot out of bounds.

I'd take the scores with a grain of salt to some degree. With Berry back and Theo/Cam/Kenny/Luke getting many of the other minutes we are going to look so much different than most of the minutes today. The upperclassmen by and large have looked quite good. I'm still wondering which of the freshman/sophomores are going to step up though. The predicted breakouts for B-Rob, Seventh, or Felton have not come to fruition yet, with Brooks maybe looking like the best player so far. I think Felton has the best chance if he can get more comfortable with the team. I'm super excited for tipoff Friday!

Bingo above.

Without Berry’s ability to score at the point guard spot we aren’t very good, at all right now. And there are still those on here that are telling us we need more Kenny Williams when he shows zero ability to be a threat offensively.

Translation: Without Berry the Heels are an NIT team
Maybe, maybe not.... I doubt Sunday really showed anything.
I believe this team will be a slow-burn improver and we'll see some pretty ugly games along the way. But NIT? Who knows till they play in a real game, against real competition, with Roy putting his best players out there (remember, he's going to muck around with lineups a heap prior to ACC play)

Totally incorrect summation! Without JB we are not nearly as good and won't really contend for a Natty, but we still have some awesome pieces and depth so we could still win the ACC and scare peeps in the tourney! With JB, I believe we are one of the teams to beat; without him we are a team peeps don't want to play and outsiders will ignore to their peril!

7th, JF, TP, and Platek will be enough to collectively run the team. 1-2 of them will step up and earn the lion's share of PG minutes, but most of them will play it some. I still expect 7th to get starter level burn at 1, but I am becoming less confident of this prediction.

Yeah, I kinda agree, I like the way you state it, a slow burner improver type of team. I do not think what we have seen so far is really a great reflection of how good this team will be. It is really important to realize that Roy has really thrown some "junk" lineups rotations out there in these exhibitions just to get some kids used to playing in front of our crowds, I don't think we will see line ups like we have seen for much more than mop up minutes now the games count. Now of course Roy does spread PT around and plays really deep bench especially early on. But he will initially run with a constant rotation of 9-10 and pare that down late season to a solid 8-9. Meaning 2 guys that get a lot of early PT will see their time cut hard late season and in to the post season.

If we don't have a couple of the freshman bigs really step up hard we will be forced in to playing a lot more small ball than many of us want to see, hopefully if we do it comes with a lot more pressure especially from our back court so we can get out and run.
