James Brown Making Changes To Become The Best Player He Can

One thing that concerns me that he says they are telling him at Link is to maybe lose a few lbs??? From what I see the kid is a baby Bacot, at 6'10" and 225, I would think he needs to add weight, muscle not fat, because he will need it to bang in the paint against big time college programs.

Dave that did strike me as being strange, but as you stated they want him to add more muscle which in my years will not attribute to losing weight?

Please .. not another Bacot. Great heart, great ambassador for UNC bball but not really athletic, no outside game, no versatility inside and no consistent go to inside shot and very little hope for making an impact as a pro. I'm still head scratching why UNC was so high on him to start with,

Are you saying Brown isn’t another Bacot or please no you don’t want another Bacot??

Dude was one awkward step from hanging the 2022 National Championship banner in the Dean Dome, and this is the crap you type about him?

And yet he is a walking double double and in so he is a game changer, not sure I can understand anyone not realizing that? Have you drank the "centers no longer matter" koolaide, strange things have been put in koolaide like that? LOL

I am personally wondering what "go to move" you recommend that defeats constant double and triple teams defensive fronts thrown at stopping 1 guy? It would really be nice to see Bacot get to play with a for real PG, rather than combo's that look for their own shots first, gosh I would think being able to would really help him produce more and not have to deal with as many double and triple teams clogging the paint.

I must imagine someone has the temerity to question Mr. Bacot of all peeps! Of all the players on our team, one would think he is the only one immune to such things....but some don't see the game as we do!

To be clear D, I was referring to the peeps I have on ignore because your response seems to indicate they were not complimentary toward Mr. Bacot!

Every basketball player we will recruit forever will have limitations. If UNC keeps getting Armando Bacot's every recruiting cycle, I will accept those limitations, lol.

I agree with your criticisms of him. And I've said in the past that I think Bacot is more productive than he is dominant. But I'll still take that every year.

That's a fair point and I grant that it is difficult to make shots with 2 or 3 peeps draped all over you, especially with the muggings the worthless NCAA officiating now allows. But Mando never showed he had anything resembling a consistent baby hook/hook shot turning away from the defender, any type of consistent short game and certainly nothing outside and his game around the basket seldom showed any athleticism or above the rim play and I'd like to know how many of his rebounds were his own. However I am looking forward to seeing what he can do this season with what should be a much more balanced scoring team and hopefully a true PG (EC).

I challenge the peeps critical of Mr. Bacot to name 5 centers they would rather have had last season! Not many can combine the consistent performance; growth each year; love, cheerleading, and recruiting for the U; hard work; and guaranteed double/double no matter who or how many were on them and no matter how the rest of the team performed! Back to the basket 5s are disappearing but this is not necessarily a good thing! Who could actually guard him one on one? Oscar from Kentuck maybe but who else?

I’m sure nobody is hoping Cadeau reclassifies more than Bacot. Nobody would benefit more than he would. Yes, he is a below the rim player. But I don’t care about his lack of professional level skill, I care about how well he plays in college. And he’s proven to be a walkin‘ double-double. That’s plenty good for me. If Cadeau is playing point next season as most think, everyone on the team will be the beneficiary of more space and better shot opportunities. It’s a win-win scenario.

If anybody still questions the impact of a natural PG, have them check out what happened to the Suns as soon as CP3 got hurt!

I agree and have to remind myself that if he were to be better from the perimeter and have some of the other post moves that people want him to have, that he’d be gone. Lol I want peeps with a few lacking skills that stay for multiple years, rather than one and dones. Jmo

I’m not in the get rid of Bacot camp, but I will say I saw Drew Timme make a couple of moves in the tournament, & I said man I wish Bacot could do that.

Timme is skilled I agree. Bacot has developed moves and counter moves too. Timme has more fluid offense and passes well but Bacot is a better rebounder and is equal on D so it is a wash to me. + Timme does not have to fight through double and sometimes triple teams all game either.

Timme is a future NBA player, Bacot isn’t. That’s why Bacot is back for a fifth year. But Bacot is a very good college player who still managed a double-double while being double teamed all year because our “shooters” couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean. If you’re gonna play the style Hubert wants to play, you’d better have wings that can knock down threes. We had one good perimeter shooter last year, RJ when healthy. That’s not going to work for Hubert’s style of play. Ryan will be the best shooter on the team. I think he’s capable of playing either the two or the three, a badly needed addition.

Refs allowed Bacot to get mugged by multiple defenders every game, I do think they tend to allow bigs to play more physically and I like a physical game but some of the stuff Bacot had to try to play thru just was over the top. What I would love to see from Bacot is to really work to add a mid range jumper as a counter to his spin whirling dervish thing? LOL Teams were book ending Bacot, one behind him trying to root him further away from the basket and one harassing his ability to catch from the front side. Now I can ask who they are willing to leave open to allow the double, last season it was pickem between Leaky and Nance, I don't see that now. Now if teams can not double Bacot then we have a brand new animal to tame! Because as someone mentioned about the only way to stop Bacot with all that size, strength, and girth is to double him and if you double him you leave someone else wide open and if we are smart we force them with spacing to have that double come from to far away. SIZE MATTERS and there just are not many teams able to match Bacot's size.

I would not call Bacot a high riser but he isn't nearly the below the rim guy Meeks was, now ya want to talk about a guy that blew up his rebound numbers with his own misses, that would be Meeks way more than Bacot. It is really hard for big men to explode up strong thru multiple defenders, aside from the obvious the lesser discussed but just as big if not a bigger factor is where do the big mans feet land when he comes down, to often that is on some other players foot and that results in what, ankle sprains and foot issues., what has really limited Bacot for 2 straight seasons now, ankle sprains. Funny how a kid with a nasty high ankle sprain is not able to rise up as explosively as he could before the ankle was hurt and that can take an entire season and then some to recover from.

I don't recall Timme having to play thru nasty high ankle sprains for the last 2 seasons either. Isn't it a bit odd, we fans can know full well that a kid is having to play thru a nasty injury and still find a way to be critical of his play when it does not match his pre-injury play?

So I asked peeps to name 5 centers and only one was named. That alone tells you how valuable Bacot has been as a Tar Heel! Maybe if he shut himself down when he sprained an ankle like Zion the magnificent or took forever to recover from injury like Kyrie the savior peeps would revere him. Instead, he soldiered on and played through extreme pain for us to criticize his lack of explosion....hmmmm?

Bacot is the heart and soul of UNC and I really appreciate what he has done and continues to do for our program!
