You’re right. I suppose it’s just a matter of time before Hubert is hung in effigy as well.Dean Smith was hung in effigy. Give it some time, folks.
That won't happen because people don't do that anymore but rather the equivalent on-line.You’re right. I suppose it’s just a matter of time before Hubert is hung in effigy as well.
I absolutely love Hubert, However Dean Smith he is not…..Dean Smith was hung in effigy. Give it some time, folks.
Maybe so but who is or ever will be?I absolutely love Hubert, However Dean Smith he is not…..
I dont think he is an X’s and O’s coach. Looks like a great recruiter though. It’s hard to gauge his coaching ability because the portal has infested the entire game of basketball. No longer can one take out certain players for extended periods of time due to fear of losing them to the transfer portal. These kids are for the most part me me me players, not the kind of players Dean used to get that’s for sure.Maybe so but who is or ever will be?
But he can be a heck of a coach.
Agree on Tyler. Good point from a very old school background. The guy has some confidence and is a shooter which we badly need.I dont think he is an X’s and O’s coach. The current starters may have a group breakdown if Hubert sat them on the bench and inserted the “ Blue Team” like Dean used to do.
Once Hubert gets his own players, and this kind of play continues, then I will revisit whether we need a change or not.
For now I will ride this up and down roller coaster and hope to God we don’t lose Tyler to the portal. I see a lot of Dennis Wuycik and Larry Miller in him. He is a shooter who needs to play more minutes to get in rhythm. He will be a superstar if allowed to play more than 2 minutes at a time in a rotation that makes sense……..
I think he'd adjust and do very well if he were a young coach. I don't think he'd have any issues at all.Question, how do you believe Dean would be if he was coaching in today's world of college basketball? With the NIL, portals and etc. Notwithstanding he was an outstanding coach, one of the best, but the comparison probably does not hold merits.
Over the years Dean Smith was a master at manipulating lineups to get the best out of his players. Sometimes that backfired ( Buckley/O’Koren.) However for the most part it worked year in and year out. The old knock on Dean was the only better coach on the floor was Dean himself, because he sometimes did out coach himself. I could live with that again believe me. Dean got the most out of the least of any Coach I can remember watching, and in todays world I’m sure he would adapt and move ahead, and most importantly he would win because that’s what he demanded of his teams. The rat has the most wins, but who would you want as your coach with less than 2 to go down by one with the game and season on the line? Yes I’m saying Coach Smith would be a great coach today just as he was then. Some coaches are just that way.Question, how do you believe Dean would be if he was coaching in today's world of college basketball? Putting Buckley in for O-Koren in the national title game. Who can forget that? But hey, he was the master. I like the way you expressed it. Sometimes he outcoached himself. Should have called a time-out.Over the years Dean Smith was a master at manipulating lineups to get the best out of his players. Sometimes that backfired ( Buckley/O’Koren.) Dean was always about the players! I think he would have led the charge for NIL. May have been the only thing I'd have disagreed with him about. Not disagreeing, but I can't help but wonder how Dean and his methods would relate to today's players. It's a different era. Dean didn't have to worry about transfer portals and NIL I think Dean also sensed when it was time to get out, as did Roy and I really think K did too.
Dean Smith inherited a terrible situation. Hubert didn’t. Dean would have benched Caleb in about two minutes with his wild shots and bad decisions. Hubert refuses to. But just keep telling yourself that Hubert is another DeanDean Smith was hung in effigy. Give it some time, folks.
When Dean Smith took over, UNC was placing itself on probation: scholarships were cut, etc. The two scenarios are not close to being the same.Dean Smith was hung in effigy. Give it some time, folks.
Which may explain why we nearly won a national title last year but it still can take time with a new coach to put his players and system in place. When Dean Smith took over, UNC was placing itself on probation: scholarships were cut, etc. The two scenarios are not close to being the same.
I think he has already in the minds of many of our fellow posters. You’re right. I suppose it’s just a matter of time before Hubert is hung in effigy as well.
