While doing interview with sportscenter guys tries to throw Roy Williams name in with hall of fame coaches under heat with ncaa! Bilas says you can't do that with Roy he wasn't mentioned one time and the men's basketball wasn't! Good for you Jay Bilas.

I think he's actually pretty tough on Duke and very quick to praise UNC. Jay Williams on the other hand...

Bilas is okay. He went to Law School for a reason...he is bright, articulate and generally speaking offers good insight as a former player at a high level.

Agreed dadika, Jason (I'll change my name) Williams is most always way overboard on his loyalties.

Bilas was at dook before K became the prick he is now and before it became a magnet for the pricks they get now. Well, and really ever since Laettner went there. He set the standard for dook players that continues to this day.

As for Bilas, back when he played the teams still respected each other even though they played just as tough as they do now. Bilas also played against Dean and I think really respects what he, Gut and Roy have done to maintain the program for so long.

I also think he is truly a stand up guy who doesn't get caught up in the "shock" antics so many commentators thrive on these days. Vitale used to be interesting because he mixed shtick with knowledge and insight. He got away from that and became just as annoying as the younger guys I think in an effort to stay relevant. Bilas doesn't seem to care about any of that and just wants to talk basketball.

Frankly, along with Grant Hill, he is probably the only other dookie I actually like and respect. The rest can go pound sand.

Only one quibble:. K was always a prick.

Only one more quibble: Bilas was a dirty player at puke! I hated him while he was playing because he took all kinds of shortcuts to hide his lack of athleticism. He elbowed peeps in the back and undercut them when they tried to dunk. I gained respect for him YEARS after he left puke when his fair-minded commentating convinced me he finally got that stench off of him. He is intelligent and most of the time, he is fair, but let's not revise history-He was the poster boy for puke punkyness! ratty was always a prick! (remember he started his tenure by complaining about DES getting preferential treatment from ACC refs-hypocrite much?)

That being said, I really appreciated his words about Roy and how forcefully he shut the ESPN talking head who tried to link Pitino, Roy, and Boeheim!

other than tirico doing play by play, he's the best thing that network has...i've been a fan of his since he started and have defended his "bias" on here many times.

side note, heard today that espn is on the verge of firing "a lot" of on-air talent...this should be interesting.

Speaking of Grant Hill did he not go with "K"ay when "K"ay was doing his final "in-homes" with Ingram...? I seem to remember seeing a pic of Grant Hill, along with the Duke staff, in Ingram's home just before Ingram committed to Duke. If my memory is correct (and I believe that it is), "K"ay had GHill with him down the stretch. I still remember a pic showing this happened (and I honestly believe that my memory is correct concerning this). Could be wrong but I do not believe that I am...

Well, OK, so you are obviously correct. I guess I should have said "before K stopped caring if he was showing everyone he was a prick". At one time he did act somewhat respectable for a decent portion of games. The more he won the less he cared and now he pretty much does what he wants and says what he wants and the refs beg him not to spank them later.

As for Bilas, I don't remember him being a dirty player. Tough, yes. Hard nosed, yes. Dirty, no. Laettner was the epitome of the dirty player and if that asshat were to spontaneously catch on fire in the middle of my yard I wouldn't spit on him to put him out (Yes, I cleaned that up). I would call the fire department. Eventually. If my house were threatened. Well, maybe.

Bilas had his moments but he was far from their worst culprits.

K was actually a worse dick early on AFTER the games. He whined about Dean, generally bitched and moaned to the media and obnoxiously blew his own horn. Somewhere along the line his PR machine (and that's not an exaggeration) reined him in and he mastered the disingenuous "classy" post-game patter all the while becoming a raging hemorrhoid on the court, directing his F-bombs at cowering zebras.

No, they specifically said that no on-air talent will be a part of the layoffs. Mostly producers and behind the scenes guys, but some really good ones that have been there a long time. Shame.

I remember clearly guys since I went to the games at puke and UNC. I lost the connection to puke seats when I forgot where I was and cheered too hard for UNC in the Iron Puke section while we were coming back to win. MY father lost a lifelong friend and we lost our seats that day, lol. Bilas always played on the edge between hard and dirty-he grabbed jerseys, threw continuous elbows, undercut/bumped drivers, moved on all screens, and always played innocent to the refs. Sounds like the prototype pukie to me, but time does seem to make us forget the bad stuff. They have since had worse, but he was true to the "code". Laettner did take it up to a thousand so he overshadowed all other puke punks!!

ESPN needs to cull the herd anyway! Hopefully we can get less of Dakich and Seth Greenberg!
