he's a pro...completely dissects everything, undeniably fair, a real asset that espn hasn't had for college basketball in decades.

you guys that were on him last month need to take the carolina blue shades off.

great win heels!

Disagree. I like bilas and think he does a good job but he was unprofessional and showed his bias in the unc vs dook games. When his boys aren't playing he is a great commentator.

He deserved what he got, he had a bad day just like the rest of us.

But he is very good ................................ so long as Duke ain't playing.

I love listening to Jay Bilas, and I still have no clue what anyone was talking about a few weeks ago. He's always fair with analysis. People angry with the Duke losses just needed someone to take their frustrations out on. That's the only logical explanation I have because he's the best in the business.

The G man ain't half bad, not good as Bilas but sure beats Fish Sticks and Patrick!

Agreed.

He's the reason I'm now resolute about listening to the Jones Angell and Eric Montross radio broadcast, even when the delay is somewhere between 2 seconds (watching TV) and 20 seconds (watching online). It's agonizing, but it's still better than listening to Bilas during a dook game. Just can't help himself. Otherwise, I think he does a really good job.

And you're deaf if you haven't heard, once again, his gross bias toward dook in this Notre Dame game.

he's pretty damn unbiased tonight...could be a personal thing though.

duke has a good team, it's hard not to appreciate their athletes while still hating the program and coach.

Must be deaf then ... During the unc-dook games it was crystal clear of his bias but this game he has done nothing short of ripping dook and a lot of praise for ND

I like Bilas just because he pisses off the duke fan base. Honestly, he drives me crazy constantly talking about fouls but my first sentence allows me to tolerate him.

Best announcer in the game. Being a ND guy - I felt he was 100% neutral tonight. Even calling out officials on questionable calls. He is by far the best in the business. I will always prefer him calling a game. Whether it's my team play Duke or not. I truthfully think he is that good.

You're right ..98% of the time he is .. But watch the UNC-dook game in the future .. You'll understand the 2%

I will have to check out. Maybe it's just because it amazes me that someone can be so neutral (for the most part) against their alma mater. I will be the first to admit I would struggle at times not losing my composer. Maybe my point is more that I find him a very good announcer and about as neutral as I can imagine anyone could be while calling a game with their school on the court.

To an injury free game tomorrow.

I watched the games over on the ACC Network on our CBS station and thought they did a great job. Even Gminksi was good for both games in my opinion. Bilas is good, but I have noticed when he calls Carolina games, especially against cupcakes early in the season, he seems to always talk about how much "Carolina should be up by"...like UNC will be up 15 and he'll say "They should be up 25" a lot of the times. I don't think he's God's gift to the airwaves. Honestly, he's probably only 2nd to Dean Smith on this board in receiving praise. I would bet money he gets more praise from posters than Roy does. For me, ehhh, he's still a dook guy and that still counts for a lot in my book. But he's better than 95% of the people DSPN has

I sure wouldn't...it would finally be nice to have a guy from Carolina in the see of ugly dook blue over at ESPN which includes Battier, Jay Williams and Bilas, with Gminski over at Raycom. I LIKE Bilas' commentary most of the time, I just don't get the glorification he gets over here. I'd looooove to see Phil Ford or some guy from our side in the booth somewhere

Vitale has definite lost his spot as the big game guy for ESPN. I'm in the camp that like Bilas and feel like he does a good job being fair and relatively unbiased. At some point you have to say plenty of good things about Duke, b/c they are just consistently good. He was killing the refs last night for letting Okafor just bulldoze his way to the bucket. He was also calling them out for calls that were ticky tacky in the paint, complaining that they were letting post defenders "defend" at all. If I had to pick someone to call any game I watched, I would pick Bilas.

Thought Hubert Davis was great with Bilas, Reece Davis and Digger Phelps when that group was together a few years ago!

I generally like to hear Bilas call a game or give analysis because he seems to know what he's talking about, and is very good at what he does, and seems very prepared to answer any question with little or no bias, and he doesn't care much for the NCAA, so that ain't bad either....Don't mind Gminski, and enjoyed his personal recruiting story in regards to DES a couple weeks ago.....As for Battier, he's just flat out terrible, is about all I can say.....Williams is alright, but Seth Greenburg trying to talk over everybody else, gets annoying pretty fast!

Have to also tune down the audio at times when Tim Brando and the "rim unkind" broadcast gets underway...lol!....Just seems too much like Paul Finebalum during football season with all the glorification of the SEC, and really look at him as an SEC honk most of the time who should be working for the SEC Network and not covering the ACC Tourney for Raycom(ACC Network)....

Just my two cents!

Only issue I have even against Bilas is that he sounds like snobby or that he doesn't care at times. Like he is counting down to the buzzer because it is just some annoying job to him. Lol. He is usually good on what he says. He just has like a demeanor lol.

Bilas is a dookie and always will be a dookie. He kept talking about how good UVA is and how lucky UNC was in beating them. he kept bad mouthing UNC just as he did last time we played the King Rat and his gang of floppers.

Welp, no dooK game to call tomorrow
laugh.r191677.gif

I hope UNC wins just so those dooKies will have to talk about the Heels, and also be constantly reminded of dooK's and K's lack of preparation for the game.

I agree, I think Jay does a goood job with his assessments. As for his assessment about Carolina being lucky. His word is not gospel. He get paid for his assessments and opinions. I believe that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. You can't tell me that you don't believe Kenny "The Jet" Smith, Stuart Scott or any of the former Tar Heels that are calling a Carolina game won't show some bias. That's just the nature of the beast.

that's why i mentioned brad daugherty...when he did color years ago before nascar, he was horribly biased...very witty, but not as technical or as game savvy as bilas.

Really like Bilas besides the recent UNC-Dook series.
Gminski is good and, as another poster said, Battier is pitiful.
I much prefer LaPhonso Ellis over Battier, he's very entertaining.

As long as Bilas is not promoting Dook's cause, then he can be decent. However, ALL of the former Dukies are loyal to Duke, when it gets down to real nuts and bolts (jmho). Sorry BUT I do not really have a favorite Dukie announcer. That will almost positively stay that way. There are way too many Dukies in the media and elsewhere to suit me. However, maybe some here are okay with Duke being a one seed when they did not deserve to be (jmho). BTW, Duke was and is the ONLY one-seed this year who was not either their own conferences regular season champions and/or their conferences Tournament champions. Duke will get this same type of favor again in the near future (again jmho). Just stay tuned and time will indeed tell...

I remember Meeks' first shot. Blocked by Okafor, Bilas pointed this out. At the first commercials, they showed it in slow motion, with Bilas talking about how great a block it was while the TV showed Okafor palming Meeks' head. Not even a mention that "they got away with one there."

To be fair, I usually like Bilas, and if I was there, I doubt I could hide my bias for UNC.

Reminds me of the Dook/UNC game at Chapel Hill Tyler's senior year and Gerald "the thug" "elbow drop" Henderson's too...

ESPN had game day at CH and it was great, each guy would come in to the off court studio/set thing up in the stands...
so Reese got a good hand and Digger got a nice response, some oohhs and aahhhs, and Bilas came in and a loud chorus of boos went up and he laughed and Hubert came in and he had such a big smile, the whole place was yelling H-u-b-e-r-t...over and over and he was laughing and all the other guys were giving him grief kinda like, "why are you getting all the love"?

It was a fun day and a great game.
