In this day and age I'm sure he catches sh** on social media from the dookies, wuffies, et al, every time we lose. I would hope none of it is coming from Heel fans.
Whatever, a great response and mindset.

I wonder in what context this was written?
Well, he has struggled in one way or another in the last two games. 3-17 shooting and then 5 turnovers in a loss. I imagine he either saw an article or else heard grumblings from fans/rivals.

Dude is an absolute stud. Bottom line he’s been trying to carry us more than he should have to. He’s looked exhausted and frustrated the last week. He’s too good not to figure it out. JB will be fine.
Yep, and if I'm Roy I tell him to take a break from all the extra shooting work, release a little of the pressure he's been putting on himself, and come back fresh.

That is a totally nonsensical tweet.

Sorry JB, the projected NBA drafts don't lie.

The "tiger" has not behaved like a "tiger" so far this year. And the "sheep" are not stupid as they know a "tiger" when they see one. If you want to be considered a "tiger," play like a "tiger" on a consistent basis.

Go Heels !!

Dude just do us a favor and keep your negative connotation to yourself. Joel is a tiger and you sound a lot more like a hater than a true heel fan. And don't give me that blue shade crap
I have criticized this team when I felt warranted but never ever questioned Joel neither should you. Just shut it already

The same "tiger" that led the way to back to back Final 4's?? If you think Joel is the problem with this team maybe you should go back to cheerleading for your local tiddlywinks team!

Yep, he just doesn't have as much help as he's had and defenses are keying on him. He's pressing and it shows. But he is the heart of this team, have no doubt. If the rest of the team played with the same intensity that he and Luke play with, we'd have 2-3 less losses.

I said in the preseason that I hoped Joel didn't feel like he had to do too much and put undue pressure on himself. In games where we don't shoot well or play with the requisite intensity, that's exactly what is happening. We desperately need Cam and Kenny to step their offensive games up and help Joel and Luke.

One of the things that made The Dog so valuable last year was his teammates working without the ball to get into a position for a pass and better shot WHEN he made his move. Because of that, he had options. If the defense collapsed on him, he had someone to make them pay. If they didn't, HE made them pay.

Right now, Theo is about the only other guy on the team who "gets it" and moves with out the ball. The rest are standing around watching JB do his thing or Theo do his thing, but they aren't helping out. They don't seem to realize moving without the ball on offense will help create opportunities for them. It will also put them into positions where IF a shot is missed, they can get a rebound and probably a quick put back.

Honestly, what I think we are seeing with this team is a lack of experience. If you think about what we lost after the title, more than PPG it was experience. Those guys knew what to do and how to work to make Roy's offense flow like it should. The young guys don't and it is showing.

I firmly believe they will figure it out. Possibly after this VT loss, but it might not be for a few more games. Who knows? I do think they will "get it" at some point and we will finish this season strong. Until then, it will be hard to watch at times and we just have to be patient.

And let me say this, too: Jalek will be fine. It is obvious he is frustrated right now. He is having a very hard time figuring out Roy's system and what is expected of him, but once he does, I think he will be every bit as good, if not better, than JB. Only thing that will hold him back is him. IF he will listen, learn and try to apply himself, he will succeed. If he doesn't, he won't. I think Ray, JB and every other UNC PG who has been through this already will be there to work with him and try to teach him what they can, but, ultimately, it is on him to do it.

Pretty sure one of the all-time winners at this program isn't focused on NBA mock drafts in the middle of his senior season. Likewise mock drafts have little to do with a slump that a senior may have.

I’m not a believer that Jalek doesn’t understand what is expected of him. Don’t pass the ball to the other team, try and keep your man from scoring, etc. sounds silly but it’s really that simple. If he could guard a statue and only passes the ball to teammates, his minutes would improve drastically I’d bet. The issue is that he’s never been challenged against good competition on a consistent basis like he’s seen at the college level. It’s also been said that he lacks the work ethic needed right now.

And another troll is revealed!

JB is a Dog, but as the announcer said last game; no team can survive on the shoulders of just 2-3 peeps! (LM, JB, TP) {all our scoring from: JB, LM} When the rest of the team starts to grasp the true effort and execution needed to handle college bball in general and the UNC system specifically, we will soar!

It is easy to say someone is NOT a Tiger when you don't have to walk in his jungle!

When is he going to develop a floater? I'm tired of watching him drive in, only to have the shot slapped back in his face. Multiple times per game. He needs that floater if he has any desire to be on an NBA roster...

He has one and has used if effectively in the past, but I agree it would probably behoove him to use it more. He's been trying to take it in and draw contact --- and he has --- but trouble is it ain't getting called very much. JB can get himself a short pull-up or yes, a floater pretty much when he wants to. Discretion may indicate that he take those routes more often.

If he isn't focused on that, that's damn impressive. I remember my second semester senior year at UNC - all I could think about was where I'd land a job when I graduated. If there was such a thing as a mock list of who employers in my field were hiring, and I wasn't on it, I would have been completely consumed with getting myself on that list.

Our struggles are definitely not on JB’s shoulders. Look at everybody not named Joel, Luke and Theo. Not saying they are perfect but they bring it most every game. The rest of our team, not so much. Kenny williams needs to find an offensive pulse again in particular. Manley and Brooks have to combine for a double double for us to be competitive. They combined for 2 points and 2 rebounds last time out. How pathetic.

I'll go a step beyond the individuals' performances to the meshing and movement of our offense. Sure, Joel's percentages aren't up to his standards but if you take away all the late-shot-clock attempts and shots he just has to get up when the movement bogs down, those percentages would be much more JB-like.

The Bomb Squad is creating points at an admirable efficiency rate, but as we work guys in past the starters, especially when we change up to Traditional, that falls off... and a lot of that results from problems meshing the parts within a system based on a motion offense. In other words, once our team motion gets better and smoother, JB's burden of wrangling the mess and being the safety-valve will start to abate.

One thing that has always stood out to me about Joel is his hard working and determined mentality both on and off the court to go along with right mindset to be able to accomplish the goals of the team. He cares so much about this team and in the end all he wants to is to help them win which is what makes him such a great leader as he would put his stats aside in order for them to be able to win games. I listened to something last week about Joel that talked about how he had those same qualities in highschool which didn't surprise me one bit seeing how competitive and motivated that Joel is.

As Coach Smith said: “I really believe any leader must do what he says. I think that's extremely important to do what you say." For me, Joel is the epitome of that quote, he has something that can’t be replaced and that is his desire to win, not only does this mentality led him to be the best that he can be, but it also sets the right example for the team. This is why I think he may be a little frustrated with games like Virginia Tech because he gives his all and he expects everyone around him to do the same. Roy talked about it on Roy Williams Live a few weeks ago that something that separates Joel is the way he carries himself and goes about his business because he not only wants to get the job done, but he wants to perfect it.

We are still trying to find our identity as a team, everyone needs to make improvements. Once we start connecting better, this will definitely allow Joel to take some pressure off of himself and be able to just play. He knows that he needs to be better and he is definitely working to do so. With Joel at the forefront of this process, I really do believe that we will be just fine and things will start clicking, he knows that his role is to bring this team together and lead them to be the best they can be, he’s not gonna give up until he his able to do that. If Joel has showed us anything over these years, it is that he will get us where we need to be and he'll be there come crunch time, just BELIEVE!!

Thank you for your input.

All I am saying is that in all situations -- sports, workplace, marriage, social interactions -- it is unwise for one to self-identify as a "Tiger" when one is not currently behaving like a "Tiger." I am a dedicated UNC fan, but I am a realist. Hopefully, contrary opinions like mine are welcome on this forum and not subject to name-calling. Thanks.

Who do you want to take shots at next? Marcus Paige? Michael Jordan? Tyler Hansbrough?

If you don't think (know) Joel Berry is the epitome of a "tiger", "alpha-dog", or whatever other dominant animal metaphor one can find, then you are the absolute furthest thing from a "realist".

Lets put it another way. If you can't see the Tiger in JB you are blind! Throw our leading pg under the bus like you did, you will get a lot of heat. You would do well to apologize and move on. Jmhho
Yeah, that was the sort of post that makes me wonder if some of the guff JB was responding to was coming from Carolina folk. SMDH if that is the case.

Well the fact is he is the "alpha-dog" for the team this year and so far is struggling in that role. He has been a fantastic player throughout his career but it's a fact his numbers and overall play are worse than throughout his career because he has to carry a lot more on his shoulders.

...and your point is? He's carrying a burden, well beyond just being the alpha-dog (which he's always been), that no player should have to thus far for a variety of reasons beyond his control. "Struggling in that role"? OK... let's see someone else try it.

Typically role players show up at home. Not so much on the road. Maybe we are finding out Kenny is just a really good role player?

That's precisely what he is, despite what some here try and pretend. He'd be a great 7th or 8th man off the bench on an elite team.

I think he is worthy of starting. But right now he is our 3rd scoring option and is best suited for a 5th option on a starting 5 or a 6th man.

I don't like that word, it's a little harsh. I prefer these:

id·i·ot
ˈidēət/
noun
informal
noun: idiot
a stupid person.
synonyms: fool, ass, halfwit, dunce, dolt, ignoramus, cretin, moron, imbecile, simpleton;
informal: dope, ninny, nincompoop, chump, dimwit, dumbo, dummy, dum-dum, loon, dork, sap, jackass, blockhead, jughead, bonehead, knucklehead, fathead, butthead, numbskull, numbnuts, dumb-ass, doofus, clod, dunderhead, ditz, lummox, knuckle-dragger, dipstick, thickhead, meathead, meatball, wooden-head, airhead, pinhead, lamer, lamebrain, peabrain, birdbrain, mouth-breather, scissorbill, jerk, nerd, donkey, nitwit, twit, boob, twerp, hoser, schmuck, bozo, turkey, chowderhead, dingbat, mook

Sadly, I'm sure some of it does come from our "fans". Wouldn't be surprised if those were the ones he's sub-tweeting at right now.

Glad he's the leader of our team. He has the mindset you want out of a Team Captain.

There is a fine line between leading a team and trying to do to much yourself, I love the kid's passion and fire but at times I do think he takes on to large a load and that sets the stage for his mates to at times not be as involved as they need to be. It kinda at times becomes the Luke and Joel show on the offensive end and I do think we are better when all 5 guys on the court are involved and I have always seen getting everyone involved as the PGs role at UNC.

Honestly, at times it looks like Theo is more of our PG, from the aspect of facilitating his team mates to find easy scores and Joel kinda becomes more of a 2 guard looking more for scoring ops than really getting others involved. Some of this is due to our 2guard not being a guy that aggressively looks for his scoring ops combined with a wing that is not a jump shooting threat, kinda forces Joel to wear to many hats on the offensive end while being the main target of defenses to harass. Cam getting and making better shots would help, maybe Joel moving to the 2 and bringing Jalek in at the point would juice things up, even Platek spotting up. Kenny looking to drive the ball more would be a huge help so defenders would have to respect his driving and not just fly out to harass a jumper, his jumper is not as accurate when tightly defended or off the hard cuts IMO.

Clearly Joel is responding to shit talking fans. It was unbelievable the number of tweets that @mentioned guys directly on the team talking shit after the VT game. If you are frustrated after a loss, then that is understandable and you are free to vent on FB, Twitter, IG, message boards, etc etc etc. But all of the people that directly tweet at the athletes to talk shit are POS's themselves. The internet makes it real easy to run your mouth at a player who you would never dream to call out to their face.
