Joel Berry get jersey in the Rafters

Personally I don't think the final four MVP should get up there either. It should be a reward for something that happened over a season, not a few games. If Berry continues to improve like he did this year, then he will be up there soon enough. Maybe in the front row if he stays around long enough.

I think final four mvp SHOULD get honored jersey because it means UNC won a NC and that player was a the most integral part of earning it. National titles are the ultimate prize, they don't happen often and definitely should be highly recognized as such. ACC tournament is a lot different than a national title. UNC has won 18 ACCT. So I don't think we need to honor the jersey for MVP as it does weaken credibility of all the other jerseys up there.

Not necessarily. It just means he was the most integral part for six games. I think you should have to prove it over the course of a year, but I understand your point.

ACC-T MVP will certainly be honored in our museum. Joel will have his in the rafters one day . .

While they're hanging Marcus and Brice's jerseys, would it be too much of an inconvenience to take down Mr.100 million dollar check's jersey . . ?

No way. For better or worse, he's part of our history. Despite anything that's happened since, he earned his spot up there the same as everybody else.

You start pulling things down after the fact, that's a steep and slippery road.

I think the gold medal qualifyer should be replaced. IT was fine back when we did not have NBA players filling out the Olympic team rosters but it is not really possible for a college player to become the MVP of a gold medal team now days. I do think the season ACC MVP should be a qualifyer.

How is that defined now that they use pro players? Does the kid still have to be in college or can it be awarded after they become a pro?

I wouldn't have a problem with this, however I would prefer it not to be a qualifier. The All American designation is achieved by being one of the top ten players out of 300+ teams, while the ACC MVP would just include 15 teams. That's still a great achievement, but I just don't think it's as high a standard for a school like UNC. Although my guess is that few, if any, ACC MVPs have not been an All American so it really wouldn't change much.

Jump on me if you like, but Berry reminds me of a young Chris Paul.

Not saying he will ever be as good as Chris Paul. Repeat that.

Roy had nothing but praise for him after winning the ACC crown.

According to this link: http://www.tarheeltimes.com/basketball/jerseys-in-the-rafters.aspx

One of these criteria must be met to qualify for a retired jersey at UNC:
Associated Press Player of the Year; Naismith College Player of the Year; John R. Wooden Award; Sporting News Player of the Year; Oscar Robertson Trophy, formerly USBWA National Player of the Year; National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year;

One of these criteria must be met to qualify for an honored jersey at UNC:

Member of a gold medal-winning Olympic team; MVP of a National Championship-winning team; First- or second-team All-America; ACC Player of the Year; NCAA Tournament MOP;

Steat, as you know I've followed JB's development since before he committed. The first thing I figured out was here is the next great Carolina PG. And of course it's natural to look for comparisons. I can see bits of several past players but as I said last season when the subject came up, instead of the "next" [insert name], JB will be the first Joel Berry.

Good point and I agree. The kid has so much potential and I just love his game. I did not tout him while he was high school, but I did anoint him as the starting point guard for UNC this season with Paige starting at the 2. I have never wavered on that.
