Don't think there is one thread on this first page dedicated to how absolutely phenomenal this young man has been this season. We will go as far as he will take us and there is no other player in the country I'd want leading our team.

Love Joel's game. Should be in the running for national player of the year. Would it break the karma if he had a hair trim? it's starting to look a bit foreign. On the other hand I'm not cutting mine until we lose again and I'm hoping for some good growth.

Yes. Marcus Paige lost his jump shot as soon as he cut his. Even his teammates tease him about it.

We just faced two of the better PG's in the country in Rathan-Mayes and Smith. Here are their numbers against Joel's:

Joel: 6 of 10 FG's, 19 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals, 3 TO's
Smith: 4 of 11 FG's, 11 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals, 6 TO's

Joel: 8 of 19 FG, 26 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 TO's
Rathan-Mayes: 2 of 6 FG, 6 points, 1 board, 6 assists, 2 steals, 5 TO's

Combined totals for the two games:

Joel: 14 of 29 FG's, 45 points, 7 boards, 6 assists, 4 steals, 5 TO's
Smith/XRM: 6 of 17 FG's, 17 points, 6 boards, 11 assists, 5 steals, 11 TO's

This demonstrates how well Joel has been playing, and agaonst top competition. He's getting it done on both ends of the court. Our MVP, no doubt.

I don't remember a UNC point guard who was as much the alpha dog that Joel Berry III has been this year and there have been some. He and Justin are shooting the ball out of their minds.

Well Mikey, back in 2012 when I told y'all that he was the next great Carolina PG, that wasn't a guess .

Yeah, it was about 2 or 3 weeks after I shared that Joel would be mentioned in the same discussion of great UNC Pgs under Roy in Ray/Ty/kendal ! LOL

gary, you can be in the front seat of the band wagon but I am driving! LOL

On a serious note, as much as I love Joel, I am not going to let that appreciation for him cloud what I see. When he does not have a great game, which is rare but does happen, I am going to say just that. And when he plays great then that is what I am going to say. Joel is in my opinion, based on his play so far this season the most valuable player in the ACC to his team's success. Further, while others may score more, his all around game, defense/passing/running this team are second to none that I have seen in the ACC as well as the nation. He IMO is without doubt at least for now the MVP of the ACC and IMO a NCAA 1st teamer.

C'mon now Dave. Remember, I got tipped off he was committing a few weeks in advance :D. The AAU congniscenti still laugh at the "pundits" for his ranking.

Seriously though, there is a down side. NBA scouts watch match-ups closely, and if JB keeps dominating lottery picks it's gonna be tough to keep him around. There's already a video on Draft Xpress breaking down him working over DSJr.

I* let ya in the front seat, ya just don't get to drive! :p

Seriously, again I would offer, the NBA is about potential more than how you are playing now, dumb we can agree but we both know that deal. When you look at potential, lets call that the size of the dog in the fight, you have to look at DSJ, Fox, Ball, and maybe even Frank mason gets in the discussion. To me, potential is great but I prefer to see what a kid is doing, is he playing great at this level before he looks at the next level because guessing about potential may measure the size of the dog in the fight but it does not measure the size of the fight in the dawg. The size of the fight in the dawg should be the driving factor and in that aspect it is hard to beat Joel.

Been telling posters this for a while. Scouts are looking at how berry played against NBA prospect after last year and paying attention. He played better then every guard, besides fox. I consider the fox match a tie.

The farther we get away from the UK game.... the more I think Theo would of been used on Fox as much if not more than Monk. Fox was the one that was setting Monk up the whole game.

Set up didnt really matter with Monk that day He was shooting under duress. Theo's extra length would have helped on him though. Fox got most of his in transition/breakdowns.

For you Gary.

I was talking more about his 10 assists.

Berry is definitely the man...the junkyard dog alpha male of this team and I hope to see him back in Carolina blue. If not though, it could be quite beneficial to be a mid to late 1st round pick and not go to an absolutely crap team (although a pickup by Philly wouldn't be the worst thing).

I think what drives Joel's decision will be where he is projected to be drafted, if he is in the 1st round, even a late 1st round, I think he will take it and go. The problem is how many PGs will be taken in the first round, I do suspect the scouts see 3 or 4 guys that they consider having more potential, not so much better players now but what they think can be better players in the future. I think Joel is right there in a similar spot as Frank Mason, maybe one is a first round but the other falls to the second, both could be second rounders.

He will and should test the waters, Roy will check his contacts, but it is vial that he leads his team at least to the final 4 just to be able to seperate from Mason. This is just one of those really good and deep PG drafts where the one after looks a lot lighter for PGs. I do think Ball, Fox, DSJ, and Duval go before any other PGs in the next draft based on potential and metric measurements. Monk could be taken as a PG as well and he will be a first rounder and there are some other PGs that can get in to the discussion or 2s in college that will be NBA PGs.

I am not throwing shade at Joel, he has been great for us, if anything he has exceeded anyone expectations and I know myself and a few others had high expects for him to begin with. This is nothing more than looking at things from the NBA view point and not from the UNC fan view point.
