DALLAS (FWAA) — North Carolina right tackle Jon Heck was among the 70 standout interior linemen represented on the 2016 Outland Trophy Watch List, announced Friday by The Football Writers Association of America.
Heck returns as a starter for a fourth consecutive season. He has made 38 career starts entering his senior season and is a very effective pass blocker who continues to improve in the run game. Last season, he was named to the All-ACC second team by both ACSMA and the league’s coaches.
Heck started all 14 games at right tackle and saw action on 918 snaps, an average of 66 plays per game. He was part of an offensive line that was named to the Joe Moore Award Quarterly Honor Roll, which recognizes the best o-line play in the country. The UNC offensive line paved the way for Elijah Hood to rush for more than 1,400 yards and Marquise Williams to run for more than 900 yards.
