Just a reminder... shooting 33% from 3 is exactly the same as 50% from 2.

2/6 3s. 6 points.
3/6 2s. 6 points.

We need to shoot more 3s. Our percentages were above 33% I think for 4 players. They should shoot at will.

40+% is elite 3 point shooting. And many were there in ACC play.

This is why effective FG% is a better overall stat than FG% since effective FG% weights 3pt FG's as they should be.

In ACC play we were 3rd in the ACC is effective FG%.

Our issue later on in the season was defense. We were pretty poor in every defensive metric in ACC play and against Wisconsin, we were never able to get the crucial stop when we needed it.

Not true. He should absolutely shoot them...when he's open. That was part of his problem this season. He would turn down an open 3 and then the shot clock would get low and we'd end up taking a bad shot. He's not a great shooter. We all understand that. But he has to shoot when the shot is there. He has to do this for many reasons. First and foremost, it will keep defenses honest. They won't sag as much into the lane and then we'll have a better entry pass to the post. Secondly, if he shoots when he's open, we're going to be in better rebounding position than someone taking a bad shot at the end of the clock. And lastly, he'll probably make some which will do wonders for his and the team's confidence.

He seemed way better at 3s than at 18 ft two pointers

I would MUCH rather see JP taking an open three than that stupid defended12 foot leaner or 8 foot fall away. Geez he's WAY too passive. Sure hope he sees that and works on it this summer.

Tokoto shot 38% from 3pt this year.

He should fire away any time the shot is open.

Shouldn't even be a question if he should or not.

38% from 3 is the same as 57% from 2.

Great percentage.

There's a lot more to 3 point shooting than just the %. How many were taken wide open when other teams just backed off and dared us? How many were hit late in a game when outcome was almost already determined? How many were hit when we were desperate for one? These situations would be really hard to determine without watching a lot of tape. It is over my head.

For any PG, SG, SF.... Taking an open 3 is almost 100% always a better choice than taking any contested 2 that isn't within the restricted circle area. Realistically, even if JP is only a 30% 3 point shooter, I'd rather have him shooting a wide open 3 rather than any contested 2 10 feet +.

The 3 most efficient shots in basketball are typically:
1. Free throws
2. 3's
3. Layups

Teams that take the most long 2's are typically the worst offensively.
