The old NIT and the NIT of today are vastly different. There was a time where the NIT actually was a good tournament.

It was very good until the mid-70s and then pretty good until the mid-80s. Young teams that made runs in the NIT used to become older teams that made runs in the NCAAs. It doesn't work out that way anymore.
