Kennedy Meeks losing himself on Twitter

I've got no issues with it. It seemed like he was more taking up for the coaches since ESPN has questioned his coached so much. It seems they are more willing to question Roy than anyone else.

I don't think he saw anything on social media. This was in response to Greenberg and Jay last night. Kennedy didn't say anything disrespectful or anything.

It was also kind of dumb to make that point on Senior Night, when neither Meeks nor Hicks started. Didn't Hicks actually start the second half?

If Meeks show half the passion on the court as he showed in those tweets I don't think people would be calling for him to get benched

I haveseen tweets from Jackson and Berry recently on this forum responding to personal attacks from so called fans who do not have any idea the stress and pressure these young men are under trying their best to represent the University of North Carolina. COWARDS who hide behind their keyboards only only reply to threads when Carolina is losing deserve ZERO respect or response from the players and coaches...I have always liked the us vs the world attitude.

Kennedy did nothing wrong --- if anything I'm glad he went on social media. Mediots spew their BS all over social media then why should they not get called out?

Thanks for the link, Bur.

I hadn't seen it until just now...glad he took up for his team, great stuff, what he said is so very true.
Jay Williams is a loser of the first degree.
I know coach and staff would prefer not to have to deal with "Mediots".

I think we all need to take ANY comments about Carolina Basketball from Jay Williams or Seth Greenberg with a grain of salt, and I'm glad that Kennedy set em' both straight with his answers, and his answers couldn't have been scripted any better IMO....

As mentioned above, Social Media can really cause problems if used in the wrong way, and we've all seen the results of bad decisions typed over Social Media....Don't think that is the case this time with Kennedy Meeks' comments on twitter in defending his Coaches, Teammates and himself from Williams and Greenburg's comments....

I mean really: Jay Williams goes out after being drafted in the NBA, and buys a motorcycle just a few years after Bobby Hurley wrecked his motorcycle, and ruined his NBA career...Of course, the same happened to Williams, so I wouldn't consider him to be one of the sharpest pencils in the drawer...

As for Greenburg, how can he give ANY advice to ANY other coach since he was always on the CUSP of making the NCAA tourney with teams that were talented enough to make it, so I think we all know how his Coaching moves turned out in the past, and really don't need any of his advice about how Roy Williams does things at Carolina...

100% Rick. It's staggering who gets these gigs as so-called on air experts. Probably 'cause the real experts made so much money playing ball they don't need to run their mouth off on TV for a living..... imagine Magic or John Stockton doing analysis and giving insight..... I'd actually listen to them!

Oh yeah, good on Kennedy. This team does seem to be tight.

Way to go Kennedy! Love this team so much it isn't funny. With all the detractors and critics, they still hang together and support each other. Even the fake arse UNC fans that hide behind the " I'm being objective" dodge can't drive a wedge into their solidarity.

This team is the perfect example of the Tar Heel Way!

Yep, a grain of salt about this big.

Seth was a mediocre Coach at best, and is an even worse commentator.

I'm far more worried about some of our fans than I am Kennedy or any of our other players/coaches.
Truth, Mikey. Honestly we can't expect all fans to always keep things in a larger perspective, or grasp all the nuances of roles and rotations, but some of the reactionary things I see out there (and even on here today) are, I'll just say, disappointing. I've seen these invented tales of Roy's imminent retirement or about dissension and/or dissatisfaction propagated by the Gottliebs or Jay Williams of the world filter down to UNC fans who should know better.

Sure, sometimes teams/players have issues --- that's just human reality. Hell, we had some actual chemistry/role issues last season --- but even those were blown up some (JP wasn't disliked or a "cancer", it just became an issue of fit and a potential reduced role). Funny thing is, the mediots didn't grasp that real one and never brought it up.

I wasn't even gonna bring this up until someone made reference to it above. After the UVA game, when asked in an interview Berry was pretty frank about the team not finishing out defensive possessions by taking care of the defensive boards --- and honestly it was something that needed saying --- nothing much different than Marcus has said on other occasions. But apparently it got blown up and he caught grief (from UNC fans) in social media to the point he tweeted that he wasn't calling out any of his teammates. Seriously... do some fans think JB can't be a leader because he's a lowly sophomore or something? Tell ya what --- little bro backed up what he said and cleaned some defensive glass himself against Cuse.

Again, a lot of this garbage is stirred up by the media. I still can't believe somebody actually asked Marcus last week if this was still "his team" since Brice was excelling (with of course a not-so-subtle insinuation about his own scoring slump). Marcus handled it coolly, but he was definitely not amused.

Williams and Greenberg are just auditioning to be Yow's next basketball coach hired from a broadcast booth

I would take criticism from Williams with more credence compared to Greenberg. At least Williams while playing won at a high level and at the highest level of the college game. Seth Greenberg was an average at best coach that would constantly complain about not getting in the NCAA tourney despite never playing anybody OOC and finishing with .500 ACC records. He just complains. Williams has at least grown on me some as a commentator. Greenberg much like his coaching career teeters somewhere between average and below average at ESPN.

Anyone who tweets at a college kid (or any athlete, really) about performance is an idiot.

That being said, any 14 year old kid can get on twitter. We have no idea who is actually tweeting at them- that is why public figures need to ignore most things they see online.

May well be the BEST thing you ever posted here. Good thing I ain't Coach. I'd FORBID all my guys from touching any social media sights.

You can't protect them from the real world. The coach should just teach them to ignore things on social media that were sent to provoke a reaction or said by people who were typing before thinking. Or just idiots.

Yep, especially considering the idiots couldn't sniff the achievements that these guys have made. What gives them the right to directly tell anyone (albeit hidden behind their account name) that they suck because they missed a free throw or had a turnover?

As fans, we get frustrated at a poor performance because we know how good these guys can be at times, but that doesn't make it right to call these kids losers... Or worse.

Yeah, sadly you can't dial the clock back. Better to advise and guide the kids about wise use of Social Media.
Just another dumb thing for the coaching staff to deal with but one they cannot afford to ignore.

Just saw this was moved... all good.

A few thoughts following the 'Cuse game and KM's tweet fest:
1. I believe Kennedy is playing hurt. I don't think his knee is anywhere near 100% and he's doing all he can to play the minutes he's playing.

2. If he is still nursing pain in his knee, it will affect his lateral movement, and thus his defence as well as his lift and offensive game.

3. Since the injury I think Kennedy has picked up a couple of bad habits. Not sure if it's knee related but he's 'shrinking' on offense more than he used to ie. taking the ball way low and dropping his shoulders too far. It's allowing the defenders to crowd him and take away any shot opportunity. Prior to the injury KM was sealing his man in the low post and laying up those neat kissers off the glass by keeping the ball high, now he's down so low he could have a chat with Bilbo Baggins.

4. He took a couple of great shots from the high post against 'Cuse. I think that's a great spot for him to get the ball as long as he doesn't turn around and then dribble into the trees. Shoot or pass from the elbow and let Brice and Justin work for offensive rebounds.

5. I also believe he's just a big, happy guy. So if he's laughing around on the bench or in the locker room it doesn't mean he doesn't care or has 'checked out'. As I said on the Tweet thread, this team seems really tight and I think they all are trying to help Kennedy stay in the game as much as possible.

6. That could be a reason for Roy continuing to go to Kennedy, or it could be about protecting Isaiah from fouls. Either way, Roy sees these guys in practice and we don't so maybe he has a plan there.

7. I disagree with someone like Doris Burke calling him/his play 'Lazy' during a broadcast.

8. And lastly, if Kennedy had plans on going pro I would hope he's reconsidering them now. He needs a Brice-like senior year to earn his dollars.

** sorry, one more. If he stays, Kennedy/Jonas should re-evaluate the conditioning work he's done in the last couple of years. There's every chance that his quest to lose weight has worn down his knees. You can lose weight with exercise other than running!

All my own opinions, no facts, no insider info.

First off to me it is refreshing to see a kid defending his team, his mates, and his coaches on social media and not causing them additional heart burn.

Now this post, I agree with most of it, want to agree with all of it frankly but... Meeks may still be hurt and I for one would love to know if he is because that would make me better understand what I see. I will never be confused with being a fan of Doris Burke but if you do not know he is hurt then the only way to take his play is to suggest it as a bit lazy.

I ABSOLUTELY agree with your **, other than impressive weight loss Meeks has not struck me as physically ready to play extended minutes, something has to be addressed in his maybe unique conditioning needs. Kid has a ton of refined skill but that car is missing on at least a cylinder or 2 almost as if it is about to throw a rod thru the crank case.
