Kentucky Expected To Add New Zealand Big...

Go ahead guys, load up, ya only got so many spots at your place. Calamari ought to be called "wide net"...

Has anyone heard if the NCAA has allowed eligibility for Skal? Last I heard that was a real sketchy situation.

Reclassified to 2015 (or will by December). Playing time could again be an issue...

Not reclassified, He graduates in Dec. Down under, Dec is the beginning of summer. He will probably enroll in Dec and be eligible to play immediately. Most believe he will play very little, however will gain experience for the next year. Really Wynyard, Humphries and SJ are building block for the 16-17 year.

Wynyard, like Humphries played on their National team and have those traits.....big men who like to play outside, but I guess that will change.

There actually was a question at one time but everything has been cleared. I think it was about "A" class overseas years ago.

Skal attended a Memphis high school for three years, apparently earning proper credits for time their. He was urged (and did) enroll in a private school for his Senior year........Tn disallowed that and he became ineligible to compete in high school. The controversy comes from his playing at a one place and schooling at another.
Nothing illegal here as long as he has the proper credits to graduate.

Seems some rumors are fueled by the jilted one, MSU, who thought he was a sure thing for them.
This calls for the NCAA to look into it closely, but we hear more good things than bad.

(i.e, No loans for houses, no jobs promised, no $100k for jewelry, no cars.....)
Seems, it purely about school transfers and should be cleared up soon.

Similar situation that saw Jonah Bolden forced to sit his freshman year at UCLA. Not saying Skal will have to sit, but a similar deal with changing schools etc.

BTW I hear Bolden could be a big surprise this year for the Bruins

PLaying for one school while attending another, yeah, that would raise a red flag for sure. I would ask why not attend the school he played for, why did he need to attend the other school? The natural question would be did he attend that private school because it was a grade factory? It isn't as if Kal had not had a history of bringing in kids from grade factory high schools.

I'm not 100% sure. I believe the school he attended for academics is legit, but the TN hs sport authority would not approve the transfer for sports. He played bb for a somewhat travel team. NCAA does not care about the bb part as long as it is not for pay. Academically, he is eligible.......(so we are told)

He's got a lot of potential but he's very raw. He won't be getting major minutes. We'll go about 8 deep this year.

Wait now, you telling me he played for a travel team and was able to handle his high school classes? It is hard enough for most of these kids to handle their classwork and play away games but you telling me this kid played for a team that constantly traveled and did have any problem with his classwork? Man, I can just see the bells & whistles going off in Kentucky had I said the same thing about a UNC recruit. But skal being a Ky recruit it just rolls out in such a matter of fact manner?

Now there are plenty of prep schools that have their kids attend classes off site but from what I understand Skal was not allowed to play his last season of HS ball because the state felt his ameturism was in question. Were members of that traveling team paid, was he the only one that wasn't? This smells like a Kantor like issue and we all know how that turned out.

Him not playing had nothing to do with amateurism. It is a was due to him transferring High School. This has nothing to do with Kanter as he was actually paid money from a pro team. Even though his parents didn't spend the money and was willing to give it back, they still took it.

Not at all surprised that you don't understand the story since you did not correctly read or understand my post. Rather you chose to fabricate one that suits your opinion....
Many or most big name private schools do a lot of traveling and have a schedule much larger that public schools. This was a team put together solely for the purpose to allow Skal to compete one year...played mostly local with a limited scheduled........something any reasonable student could handle..........At no time was ameurtism in question, rather the issue of transfer rules that exist in TN .........somewhat like NCAA transfer rules.

I'm not an insider, but get my info from sport writers and publications.......try Google sometime....;)

So creating a team solely for the benefit of 1 high school student isn't an extra benefit? Sounds like the very definition of impermissible benefits to me. I don't really care, but amateurism is such a nebulous term that it defies definition any more! I think Skal is a nice recruit that could develop into a real force, but I think he will find it was a mistake to go to Kentuck since he will sit until he is recruited over. We'll see how it plays out but if he isn't a OAD, will this damage the Cal's rep?

BTW: What is this "Google" you speak of; I would also like to try it!

Careful man, the Ky fan will swear you did not understand ! LOL

I don't even know where to start on what's wrong with this post. He'll sit until he's recruited over?

Skal has been cleared, he's going to play 30 minutes per game and he's projected as the #1 or 2 pick.

I note that you had no comment on the ameturism question...

The Tennessee High School association decision for not allowing him to play had nothing to do with "benefits", but transferring.

This is all for nothing. But it's still the off season, so any and everything gets attention even if it's unwarranted. As mentioned above, Labisierre will play this season, will probably get the most minutes and is projected to be a top 2 pick.

Back to the topic. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wynyard redshirt this year. Even if he doesn't I don't think he'll receive much playing time at all due to coming in mid season.

BTW, Good luck against S. Carolina this weekend.

There is no issue with that whatsoever. His academics were never in question. The question was regarding his handler who was kind of an idiot and was trying to see if he could make money off of the kid. From what I understand, that's been looked at and nothing came of it

From what I understand, Skal hasn't done anything wrong. I would compare it to a kid that didn't make his high school team so he went and played in the local YMCA league. No harm (or violation) in that.

I don't even think his handler/advisor really had any bad intentions thru out the process, he just didn't really know what he was doing or how to properly guide a prospect thru the high school and recruiting process. He was in over his head.
