I've wondered the same thing. He's big, as in football big. With football weight training, he could play at 300 pounds and be agile compared other guys that weight.Did Joel James ever play football? Seems liken he would make one helluva defensive lineman. I know he graduated but wouldn't he have football eligibility left? I'm only partially kidding; we need some help!
I know it will never happen, but, with the right coaching, he could possibly be a monster. Oh well...I've wondered the same thing. He's big, as in football big. With football weight training, he could play at 300 pounds and be agile compared other guys that weight.
He could play 1 year at another sport than the one he played 4 years.
has been denied admission to UNC. The DL woes just go on and on.
It looks like we are going to have too many QBs and WRs and not enough players on the DL.
DL must be a bigger recruiting priority. And it must focus on ability to get admitted and probability to stay academically eligible.
Yes. Sorry I neglected to mention that.Read on TOS that this isn't a UNC admissions, this is an NCAA problem. He hasn't passed the Clearinghouse, therefore his only options would be Juco, prep school, NAIA or D3. Hopefully, he gets into a good Juco or prep school and ends up at UNC in a year or two.
The Carolinas are known as DL heaven. We had 2 of the best DT's in the nation the last 2 years in NC HS's. We have got to keep some of these guys at home.DT/NT is already one of the most difficult positions to recruit. We're turning away kids that aren't even really borderline admission concerns at other schools.
Some have speculated that he failed to make the minimum SAT score. If that is the case, he will have to go Prep or Juco. This has been a concern for months. I'm sure he'll be given an opportunity at either another acc school or an sec school.
Correct - assuming they would have gotten admitted. I assume both Tuttle and Lawrence would have. But I don't know. The Carolinas are known as DL heaven. We had 2 of the best DT's in the nation the last 2 years in NC HS's. We have got to keep some of these guys at home.
Makes me feel a bit better.Read on TOS that this isn't a UNC admissions, this is an NCAA problem. He hasn't passed the Clearinghouse, therefore his only options would be Juco, prep school, NAIA or D3. Hopefully, he gets into a good Juco or prep school and ends up at UNC in a year or two.
Well then the staff isn't as smart as I gave them credit for. OR they really trust in the guys they have currently.i'd heard , prior to this campbell stuff, that the staff was okay with only taking Jordan Riley as the sole DT in this class unless some superstar fell into our lap.
Need to broaden the search and develop new ways to get guys on the DL to come aboard. We're prioritizing plenty of DLmen. We just aren't getting them to commit. That's the problem.
i agree. also, i think fedora needs a new message. he's given the impression that as long as our offense is high powered and scores a lot of points defense is an afterthought. that message works recruiting kids on offense, but to reach the next level our program needs a strong defense -- i.e. a more balanced image or message.Need to broaden the search and develop new ways to get guys on the DL to come aboard.
We don't seem to have any DT's on the recruiting board. Lots of OL , DB's and LB's though and more RB's than you'd expect.i'd heard , prior to this campbell stuff, that the staff was okay with only taking Jordan Riley as the sole DT in this class unless some superstar fell into our lap.
The message isn't the problem, IMO. Who's delivering the message is the problem. And by the "who" I don't mean Fedora. I mean UNC. Elite DLmen want to go to a handful of places.i agree. also, i think fedora needs a new message. he's given the impression that as long as our offense is high powered and scores a lot of points defense is an afterthought. that message works recruiting kids on offense, but to reach the next level our program needs a strong defense -- i.e. a more balanced image or message.
so how do you explain our excellent success recruiting offensive players but not defensive? The message isn't the problem, IMO. Who's delivering the message is the problem. And by the "who" I don't mean Fedora. I mean UNC. Elite DLmen want to go to a handful of places.
and a few hours later bama gets a commitment from the #1 junior college lineman. dayam.Apparently it is contagious.

They'd be idiots of the highest order if they weren't conveying that, but.........no current recruit cares about Ellis, Sims, etc. Those guys played at Carolina before current recruits were born. Peppers played at Carolina when current recruits were like 3.To an extent, I am not sure the staff is pointing success along the Dline and who UNC have placed in the pros. Are they conveying that Super Bowl champ Sly Williams is a UNC grad, Peppers, Ellis, Sims, etc. Somewhere that success has been lost.
It's still better than being a moo fan...they lose today to CC gave up 4 in the top of the 9th and went in order in the bottom of 9th. LMFAOWell the life of a UNC football fan....The 1 guy we needed in this class...
Maybe you're right though. Maybe the message is stale. Something needs to change I know that!To an extent, I am not sure the staff is pointing success along the Dline and who UNC have placed in the pros. I have to assume that the staff has known for a while that Campbell was on shaky ground , yet they seem pretty content with just Riley in this year's class.
I am not seeing those signs, no. Another problem is DL is usually one of the thinnest position groups in each recruiting cycle, in terms of elite (could start on a Top 25 team) quality. So you are seeing signs that we aren't suddenly hunting for other DTs very hard?
I am not really seeing anything , but I don't see many DT's on our recruiting board and I had read somewhere that the staff was fairly content with just Riley before the Campbell issue(your earlier post). I would assume the staff had to know Campbell might not make it when they signed him if it was the SAT I am fishing for info more than anything else.So you are seeing signs that we aren't suddenly hunting for other DTs very hard?
Some have speculated that he failed to make the minimum SAT score. If that is the case, he will have to go Prep or Juco.
Extremely unsurprising.Former Heel's target and FSU signee , Keion Joyner to attend Ft. Scott Community College.
