Leakey black NBA

Smoove, I just don't see Leaky as able to jump shoot enough for the NBA to take him. I agree, they love his ability to defend, they have loved for for multiple years now but you got to be able to shoot to survive in the league unless you are a walking size mismatch like crazy. He will end up in Europe and getting paid well for a few years and when he comes back he has a great degree to fall back on.

He will get a look, but seems a perfect G League type 3 and Dee type development. The pros are MUCH better at improving shooting with unlimited personalized coaching, no restrictions. G League did wonders for Theo's shooting in his 1st year there.

I think he was dis-served at UNC. They only focused on his defensive prowess and never coached him up to develop his offensive handle and quickness to attack the the rim and dish or finish. Obviously didn't work with him on his jump shot mechanics either .. but with his measurable s a good eye and coach could likely make him a really good player .. but he'll have to start with his mentality and approach to the game cause aggression doesn't seem to be in his nature. jmo

That's not the coach's fault. That's his.

Developing your game is always in your hands in basketball.

Man, after watching Dillon Brooks throw up bricks and bricks and being a net negative for Memphis… idk.

Maybe he can be a 2 way contract type of guy who gets called up in case of injury. I joked about him being an NBA prospect after he put up like a 2/13 game.

His NBA comp is probably Andre Roberson? Defensive specialist with size and length. I think Leaky has a bit more offensive game. Roberson may still be in the NBA if he didn’t get injured a few years ago.

Might be the path for him but he’s really limited and older. Doesn’t MJ take a bunch of UNC guys? Maybe he’ll get an opportunity there.

He could have a Theo Pinson type of career. Play a couple years in D league, and getting a two way here and there. Maybe sign a three year contract one year, take your millions and be out of the game at 30. Sounds like a good plan if that does happen for leaky.

His ability to guard a wing is his greatest asset to the NBA.

I mean Andrew Wiggins had no type of jump shot when he enter the level but developed it over the years and his career had turned out fine. I always thought Leaky would be a good to great 3 and D guy. Kyle Anderson, didn't have a outside jumper but at his size he's doing well too. JS.

Andrew Wiggins still put up numbers even without a jump shot, I see the comparison, but Andrew Wiggins bar may be way to high to think of Leaky.

Andrew Wiggins was the #1 ranked recruit in the class of 2013. He averaged nearly 21 points per game in his one college season, while shooting 34% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game. Then he was drafted #1 overall at the age of 19.

Leaky will turn 24 years old before the upcoming draft. He has never had a season where he shot the college 3 as good as 34% on 4.5 attempts per game.

Wow, Leaky’s NBA comps are now Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson.

Jeez, Hubert must REALLY suck.

Wiggins is a thousand times more talented than Leaky and can be a 22-25 ppg scorer on a bad NBA team. Kyle Anderson has a really unique skillset for someone his size. Wasn’t he also a too 5 recruit? So he was considered much more talented too.

The NBA will aways take a look at peeps with size and an elite skill! Leaky is in control of his future now. He must show he is willing to find a way to be an opportunistic scorer and continue be a lockdown defender + secondary rebounder. He could get into a lucky scenario, but he has a good chance to get paid well to play somewhere!

I noticed you added the word "just" three and D guys. They compare in athletic ability, I'm sure there career averages while Vince was in his prime are comparable.

"Just" 3 and D guys are your line!

You can word it how you want and it still would be just as ridiculous ..lol

I believe a post-injury Shaun Livingston is a great comp for Leaky. Good midrange with decent handles. Great length that helps where needed. Leaky plays better defense already and will probably learn a ton from nba coaching on how to be a little more dangerous on offense. Just a thought.

I would say if Hubert turned Leaky in to Wiggins or Anderson he would be more a coaching savant than a guy that sucks! LOL

Could his ceiling be Bridges with Nets?
Similar frames, not great shooters coming out of college, both known for defensive side of ball but Bridges has blossomed to say the least.

No. Bridges was almost a 50/40/90 guy in college and he shot 44% from 3 as a junior. Bridges was an elite shooting prospect coming out of college.

Leaky's NBA comps are Andre Roberson and Matisse Thybulle. And there isn't anything wrong with that.

I agree. You see my Shaun Livingston comp? What you think?

Livingston was really skilled. He was a 6'7" PG with legitimate PG skills. And he was skilled enough where he could mask his inability to shoot 3's and developed an elite post-up game. I don't think Leaky is that. But I understand where your heads at. Limited shooter/scorer, hopefully figures out an offensive niche to not be a complete liability. I don't know what the offensive niche will be.

I think Thybulle is a pretty good comp for him and a good aim point.

True but I also think that could be Leakys ceiling. He’s got some decent pg skills and the nba is spread out and could help him a little more.

Guys, I’m a huge Leaky fan but there are a lot of athletic NBA wings with same size /D abilities that at least have a respectable jumper. His confidence is so low in his offense, you could see it if he had a 4 foot lay in. I wish him absolutely nothing but the best but he’s going overseas and will make cash. He’ll always be a loved Tar Heel and should be. His offensive game isn’t even close.
