There are already several threads but I wasn't sure which was best to chime in on, so why not another thread?

Obviously this is huge news and a bit unexpected. It really looked like he was going to stay home and that the worries about NCAA cloud were going to cost them their shot with him. I would take it as very encouraging on the NCAA front that UNC is having a bounce back class this year.

As for Woods as a player, I like him as point guard and really only evaluate him as a point guard.

Is he perfect or a finished product at that position? No. Not at all. But, everything that he does offensively is predicated on the ball being in his hands and I don't think running him off of screens and turning him into a shooter or secondary handler is going to make him better. It would only play to his sometimes too passive nature.

Woods is a Russell Westbrook type athlete but he has none of Westbrook's attitude. I wish he would get some of that attitude. He needs to get mean, he needs to get confident and really turn into an attack all the time player.

What is so interesting with him is the the paradox that exists between his offense and defense. Defensively he is elite. He is as instinctual as they come and his IQ on that end of the floor is off the charts. Offensively, it's the reverse. He is too passive, sometimes fights his instincts and as a result gets himself all sped up at times.

Bottom line, I hope Heels fans aren't expecting to see the player they have seen in mixtapes (especially his early ones) on a nightly basis because while he does some of that stuff it's not like every game is full of one play after another like that.

I think that Woods is going to be a boom or bust kind of guy and I'm personally still on the side of boom. He just needs to unlock his inner beast and I think him leaving home and stepping out of his comfort zone a little is a great sign.
