Kennedy Meeks
On UNC’s size advantage over Temple
The whole thing at the beginning of the game was just to get the ball down low, just get it as low as possible and that’ what we did. The entire game we just tried to keep getting the ball in the paint.
On the absence of Marcus Paige
Coach has prepared us well for this game. Our main focus while he is gone is to come together and grow as a team. When he comes back we will be a much better team. He is a great player and a great leader. As of now we have to focus on Fairfield next. Marcus isn’t going to be there so we will have to pull together and try to have the same effect we had tonight.
Joel Berry
On making his first career start
I just wanted to go out there and play my game. I know my teammates are out there to help me so it wasn’t too hard to adjust to. I was just happy to go out there and get the win.
On the biggest challenge playing without Paige
Marcus can score the ball and he does a lot of things for us. He is one of our key players. With him being out we just have to step up and everyone has to take on some different roles, and as you see tonight we were able to do that. Other guys are getting involved and that’s what we need.
Nate Britt
On playing well together with Berry on the floor
Between the three of us, Joel, Marcus and I, we play together a lot throughout the summer and I think we have a good chemistry between the three of us. I think that was pretty obvious tonight. We do like to play off each other, we have a good feel for each other. I think it’s good for us.
On after a slow start getting the ball inside, everything flowing once they did
We always want to play inside-out, coach says we always want to have that balance. I think our first few possessions we took outside jump shots and they got to the paint and they scored and we didn’t. That was one of the things he emphasized early in the game, and once we started to get the ball inside a little bit more we had success.
Theo Pinson
On playing without Marcus and how it’s helping everyone grow
All of us playing right now while Marcus is out is just making our confidence go up, and Marcus, once he gets back, it’s going to make our team even stronger.
On Meeks’ development over the last year-plus
It’s confidence. He could do that last year, it’s confidence, that’s all it is. He’s just taking what coach is doing with him in practice and he’s been learning all year and over these first 24 practices and put it in the game. It showed tonight. He posted up hard, quick moves, and got to the basket – nobody could stop him.
