Looking Ahead: Jalen Washington

Nice write up!

It is nice to have such a weapon to come off the bench! As a change of pace from Bacot or playing beside him presents completely different challenges to opponents! Pairing him with another versatile big like Withers would also be interesting! I love seeing the words talented, versatile, AND patient being used for one of our players!

EC, Ryan, Ingram, Withers, Washington sounds like a fun group if they ever get on the court together!

LOL, they sound like a law firm! LOL Was that on or in court together? LOL

My view, only reason Withers should not start at the 4 would be because Jalen is (but I think that is a year away). I am just not sold on Jalen as a 5, I know he has added some needed weight this off season and really worked on his stamina issues from last season so I can get sold, just not there yet.

But as a 4, I am more convinced because I see a 6'9" kid with a 7'5" reach that has a high release on his jumper and that jumper is accurate when he has his legs under him. In todays college game where 4s are not as long as they were a few years ago I would question who can alter his shot as a 4 without fouling him. I like my center to have those broad shoulders and be able to use his butt to physically move out opponents, to be able to physically establish position and hold it.

A healthy Washington means he is going to push someone for there spot. I like the sounds of stretch four. If he becomes a legitimate stretch four, and can stay on the court (I see him constantly in foul trouble guarding the center spot).
.I am a fan of Washington, he is the guy I look forward to the most this year

I think if Withers and Washington play together, the positions become less defined. They could rotate out and in and cross guard. They could also be a real problem because they run so well, rebound outside their zone, have pride on D, and can shoot. Add Okonkwo to the mix and we have 4 versatile, skilled, and high motor bigs who can be combined in multiple ways! What will peeps do if High develops faster than anticipated? Giddy = maybe, but it is all possible!

I do like the mix of Washington, Withers, and Okonlwo. I also like Washington's chances of gaining more playing time over these guys.

One of the things I really like about my proposal of Ingram at the 3 and Withers at the 4 is how well they could switch off between themselves and not be in a size mismatch. Of course my greatest advantage in this is UNC once again returns to owning the rebounding advantage which is not likely if we go small ball with our starting lineup. Nothing against small ball, Like love it as a keep them off balance rotation in the game, just don't like it as our primary look.
