Looking Ahead: UNC Basketball, Seth Trimble

What an amazing young man! I love that he is a throwback to the days when team mattered more than personal success and peeps were willing to work their arses off to succeed! He is unique because of his athleticism, pride on D, and his patience as the staff develops him!

I am so proud of this young man, and he is the perfect example of a true Tar Heel!

Well said! Trimble will end up being one of those "loved" Tar Heels that stayed at UNC and that we got to watch grow into a man (I hope I'm not wrong). I have a feeling that players like that are going to be few and far between in today's environment. Go Heels !!!

As the driver of the Trimble band wagon, you know I want this kid to have a break out soph season. The kid has all the tools and I think his natural position is at the point. Don't know that I have ever seen a freshman come in to our back court and be such an effective defender, a freshman that can just come in and shut down the opposing teams PG, just really get in to his head. That ability alone makes him a huge weapon, a weapon that just has to be put in play consistently.

His struggles were on the offensive end, the greatest was his lack of confidence as a jump shooter but I don't know that he meshed with that group we had last season because they were a group that played more as individuals than as a united team. Seth is more a team guy than individual scorer, when his mates are not moving well off the ball his offense struggles because the passing lanes do not open up. He is a drive & kick guy and if the kick to guy is not in a passing lane he ends up in no mans land. I do think he forced some things that were not there last season but you expect that from a freshman, Cadeau will do that at times as well so prep for it.

All I hear, same as you guys see spoken to here many times is that the kid has really worked on his jump shooting, some technical things worked on but mostly it was a confidence thing, just taking the jumper with confidence it is going in which he had none to end the season. I don't know that he will ever be considered a great jump shooter but he doesn't have to be, just has to shoot enough (and make) that defenders must stay on him and not dare him to shoot. If he does that he can get that extra step to blow by them to and thru the paint and that is the sweet spot of his offensive game, his ability to finish well above the rim or dish to a cutter. Under appreciated aspect of this kid's game is how physically strong he is and how he is able to use that physical strength to play thru contact as well as to defend. The kid needs consistent minutes and he needs a supporting cast that moves off the ball and opens up passing lanes where he has options and not stranded like he was to often last season. Guys like Withers and Ingram combined with Bacot, just fit that, guys like RJ and Ryan (or Paxon) that can give him that kick out option and splash a trey.

Decision making and confidence will make a difference in his playing time! He will get plenty of chances and I believe he will see time at both spots. If he removes the hesitation about shooting and refrains from dribbling into trouble, he will be a real asset. If he continues to shut down opposing perimeter hot hands, he will be a real problem! I see big things in his future, and I know he will show some marked improvement in his camaraderie and effectiveness!
