Luke Maye...

and can play hard!!!! We will love this kid over the next 4 years!!!! Dude has some thick eye brows though!!!!

I seem to remember a good many folks "essentially" saying he would not see the floor til mop up time. In the game at crunch time? As a Freshman"? Impossible!

I guess Roy doesn't feel that way though.

heck start him over meeks until meeks acts like he wants to play.

Perhaps he will turn into another Steff Curry.

Overlooked and underappreciated.... :)

he seems to have a good basketball IQ. he was a real asset on the court against k state. he rushed one shot, but overall really contributed when our other bigs were having a tough time getting their heads out of their rear-ends.

Rather than dumping on Joel James, I would much rather praise what I saw in Luke Maye last night. I felt like he gave us something, hustle, nice block/rebound/outlet pass, worked on defense... Luke came in that first time and it looked to me like we were a bit staggered and on the ropes and all the sudden we seemed to wake up.

Brice, when he picks up his second foul in the first half of a game seems to really shrink on the defensive end and last night was not a game we got a ton from him defensively. But Luke worked on the defensive end, Hicks did as well. but for the first time I personally was able to see Luke as a valuable contributor for this season. Very very pleased to have seen that as well.

^^^ wrote the above on another thread, someone was taking a bit of a shot at Joel James and I responded in this way. By the way, I responded about Joel James because the kid is doing what he can do, we have seen what he has and at times we need his size in there. He is not going to be a star, no matter how badly we want him to be. I am glad we do not need Joel James for 20mins a game and Roy isn't playing him those kind of minutes but I do see value in him the way Roy is trying to use him. I don't take issue with a kid that gives the best he has to give, I take issue when they don't.

Plain and simple,we don't see what Roy and his staff sees when recruiting these kids,I learned a long time ago to stop second guessing recruits. They contribute one way or another.

He is a freshman so still has a big adjustment to make on defense in terms of what they are going to call on a guy like him. Still, his positioning is good and his rebounding has been really good. If he can just come in and give us that when he plays he'll be an asset this year.

I said he would be good, and he is, and by the 3rd or 4th year a good leader and possibly a 10/8 guy

Why do I not have a hard time believing Meeks to be undisciplined enough to allow himself to weigh 340-360 lbs. without an entire program all over him about it?

Meeks had to be 320lbs and 340 would not surprise me at all when he was a senior, he was barely able to make it past half court. I recall commenting at the Peach Jam that he had to learn to throw that outlet pass so he would have to run to the other end of the court. Yeah, he was a mess for sure.

But as bad as that was, you have to credit the young man for the hard work he has put in to remake his body. He beat his tuff time in the pre-season mile, he is pretty much sculpted now days, that is a heck of a transformation in just 2 years. You can say he was lacking in discipline while in high school but anyone having done what he has done with his body since high school can be called a lot of things but lacking in discipline is not one of them.

I've been a big Maye fan all along. Ignore the three stars, he can indeed play. He plays very hard and I love that. If Brice and Kennedy would play that hard every night, we could win the whole thing.
