Kid has some nice potential. Liked seeing the three he hit tonight. Looks to have a bright future as a Heel. Already becoming a fan favorite.

Seems to have a similar 'feel' for the game as Jackson Simmons, albeit in a stronger and more capable body.
Very glad Luke is a Heel and will be for another 3.5 seasons.

I really don't like the Simmons comparisons. Night and day different skill sets and athletic abilities. Granted, saying someone has Simmons' feel for the game is a compliment, but too many stereotyped Luke coming in. Folks are gonna see that once he gets comfortable, Luke is a true Euro-Stretch-4 who can score from deep and go to war in the paint.

Yup, yup and yup.
I think the Jackson comparison should start and finish with "feel" and "smarts".

Luke also looks young in his physical development. We've all seen boys become men in their 4 yrs of college and Maye looks like a candidate for 20-25 lbs of muscle by his senior year.

He is pretty crafty with what he brought to the Hill. He was one of he few kids in state championship games that actually pushed Kennedy around as when Luke was a sophomore in HS, Kennedy being a senior.

I am beginning to enjoy watching him play. Almost wish he had more minutes. He works his butt off, puts in a lot of effort, does the little things, and can shoot. I think he can shoot better if he got more reps. I like Ole Luke!!

Maye reminds me of the type of kid that we would play against from a team like Davidson or Northern Iowa that would drop 27 on us and lead our fans to melt down as to why we can't get kids like that.

Some of our fans really did not want him and said he would be of little use beyond practice until Jr/Sr, IF we were lucky.

I liked and respected Simmons and hoped he could be a real player for us in the time frame I just mentioned, but he always struggled at this level. Luke, early in his frosh campaign has already seen real minutes in some games that mattered. I suspect he will improve and be a real "sleeper" gem for us, that is sleeper in that he was not widely/highly regarded on the recruiting scene.

Truth. Elite kids who played against him respected his game and as I posted a few months ago, he got rave reviews from his new teammates for his summer pick-up game chops. He will end up either a starter or at the very least a heavy-rotation sub player for us.

Kid is gonna be a big time contributor why because his name is Luke Maye and He is a Tar Heel!!!

I initially thought he was a legacy pick, ala Flounder, but I kept hearing from recruiting guru's and others who had watched him play against higher rated kids that he really had a good game. He seems to bring a broad skill set that reminds me of the kinds of kids Dean used to get.

Luke looks under control and relaxed. He knows how to get into rebounding position especially on the offensive board. Apparently he can shoot because if he couldn't I doubt Roy would have allowed him to shoot the 3 yesterday after missing his first couple this year.

Luke is the type of 4 yr. guy you always need on your team to win the last game of the year. Looking forward to watching him grow.

Georges Niang!! That's the list! We are going to all love him before he is done.

WoW, not like we can't take something over the top fellas! LOL

I like what I see in Luke a lot but don't ya think it is a little early for projections of him being Naing, him starting for us, or him being able to play well against Meeks in high school means he may be even better than Meeks at this level? I mean guys, that is over the top stuff there, love what I see in the kids game but lets not blow up the expectations out of proportion.

I kinda do get the Simmons comparison but strongly agree that Luke is more advanced as a player as a freshman than Simmons was. They play the same potion, they both are smart players that work exceptionally hard. Neither are/were exceptional athletes for a power forward at a major D-1 program, example Brice or Hicks. Both over come a lack of athletism by working hard and understanding what we are trying to do and executing their roles. Maybe it is more that I liked Simmons more than many seem to but IMO Jackson helped us at times when Roy wanted to send the "you are not working hard enough" message to the players in front of him, I see Roy doing that very same thing with Luke.

How much better Luke will become is hard to say because I suspect we will have others down the road in front of him and getting more PT. I do think in the end he will be a more productive player than Simmons was but not sure I see enough that makes me comfortable with the notion of him starting for us on a regular basis down the road. I see him as a really good role player down the road but for now that is all I see, hope he is better than what I see but these eyes don't fail me often.

He will make you eat those words. :)

Hyperbole is our forte'. Maye is a very hard working player who seems to know the game. He will be one of those guys that reaches his potential, kinda like Wes Miller. The question is, what is his potential? I think he will become a trusted contributor that comes off the bench and gives it his all and doesn't cause any drop in the effectiveness of our O. He will struggle to guard those larger, athletic 4s, but will do his thing on the boards; make the hustle plays; and contribute offensively at times. He will be one of our first off the bench and possibly an occasional starter for the entire time he is here. He is the type of glue guy that every team needs to really succeed! I love his game and cheer, LUUKKE when he does something!

I am guilty of making a statement regarding Luke and Kennedy playing against each other in HS, and Luke not backing off but trying, as he might, to hang with the big guy two years ago. Pretty ballsy for a HS soph to bang against a senior. Shows me he has a players attitude. No flash, go in and play within oneself, keep errors to a minimum and contribute.
I do not recall anyone stretching logic to the point of Luke being better than Kennedy at this level.
Not gonna happen. Granted he is a role player, especially since Kennedy has been out. I hope, as do most of us, that in the next 3.5 years he will contribute to UNC successes.

Jackson was a fave of mine, I tend to favor overachievers. I think Luke will play a whole lot more than Jackson did. If we have wholesale attrition after this year, he could get 15+ MPG out of necessity next year.

I understand Tom, but man, do ya remember Meeks in high school? TOTALLY different player than he is now, he walked down the court in high school and still got winded! I recall one time Meeks was "spriinting" down court in high school and tripped over an ant that found its way on to the court (Roy was at that game, he called out good block out to the ant ;-) ! Ok, so that didn't happen but it coulda! LOL

If he can consistently shoot well, including 3 pointers, rebound well, handle the ball and not turn it over, and works hard to develop his defense, the truth is he can become a starter as an upperclassman and be a very good player.
