Luke Maye

Thanks for sharing. Seemingly great young man who is working his butt off. The Heels would be in serious trouble this year without him. Keep it up Luke!!

Thanks for sharing the article. OAD teams don't have solid players with experience like Maye, Berry, Pinson and Williams, and in a tight, back and forth game, I will take our guys any day of the week.

LUUUUKE !!

I still chuckle that we are having these kind of conversations about Luke Maye. I'd say that at least 80% of the poasters here at this board made shitty comments about Maye's abilities when he committed or during his freshman year.

Love this kid. He's working his way into my top 5 favorite Tar Heel players ever.

The famous cliche "The only person that could keep Michael Jordan under 20 points" was Dean Smith"

What about this one? " The only person to keep the first walk-on in history from winning the Wooden Award is Roy Williams".

Is there any doubt that Bird could average 6-8 more points a game if he averages 3-4 more shots a game? Would an average of 25 pts per game and 11 rebounds clinch the Wooden Award for Bird?

I know, I know....its a team game....Just pondering folks.

Spot on 'slinger.... though the people having these conversations about Luke are, for the most part, amongst the group who didn't crap on Luke in his first year and a half.

I don't think I ever dumped on him, but in the same breath I'll openly admit, I'd never expected to see the level of production he's risen to.... and really, that's the beauty of sports... where guys are still able to succeed with focus, determination and a bucketload of hard work.

Our guys have long, faithful relationships with each other .... they know each other and each others games ... OADs do not ..... their relationships are slight and do not translate to 'play together'. Our guys are committed to each other, to the program, and to Coach! We play as a team, not individually.

My glasses are as blue as anyone, but even I did not see Bird doing this well. I can state with 100% certainty that I never said a single negative thing about him though!

I think Bird's story is the very definition of the Tar Heel Way!
(the cool part is we can name many peeps that have similar stories!)

Easily the most surprising growth of a player I’ve seen in my lifetime watching carolina basketball up to this point. Anybody that says they saw Luke Maye becoming a legit all-American, ACC player of the year and national player of the year candidate is just plain lying. There are a few on here that said he’d be a starter his junior year which was much more reasonable, but still looked at rather skeptical from many on here including myself. Needless to say, regardless of which side of the discussion you were on about Maye his first 2 years, it doesn’t matter. He’s turned into a helluva player for us and thankful he chose to become a Tar Heel.

I remember smh when he got a schollie. Iirc we had just been turned down or backed out of several recruitments of elite big men. So to see the vid of him looking...well...unathletic, was not what i was hoping for. He was not plan b or c, but more like g. It seemed at the time to be a low point in our recruiting. Turns out it was the complete opposite! Never been happier to be wrong.

I told you he was good when we got him, I saw a couple of High School games where he looked like he does today but against inferior talent..
You, me, Clint were telling anybody that would listen he was a gamer. Not many wanted to hear it.

Yes exactly, and I saw the same guy game wise he is today, Body wise it was not even close, hats off to him and the staff for what they do for those guys Like he and Meeks for transforming those bodies..

I guess this is where my lack of interest in recruiting works in my favor. All I really knew about Luke was that his dad played football for the Heels. So I sorta figured he would just be getting a few minutes per game, and maybe by his Jr or Sr year he would be a solid bench guy. I am so glad he's worked his way into much more than that.

We need more Luke Maye threads

Yeah, I really mean that... I’m not joking.... he deserves it!

For those who don’t get it.... about a year ago there was a lot of hand-wringing about the number of Luke Maye threads... now I’m worried there aren’t enough!
